Not surprising but kind of a bummer for GS Mengoni, which has helped usher a ton of amateur cyclists to pro ranks.
Mengoni and CRCA Foundation have had a reputation issue over the years.

Yeah, but a whole host of other top guys that, well, appear clean. Think it’s tough to implicate a team at that level because graduates went on to big things and subsequently came up hot. That would put just about every devo team in the country under scrutiny.

Modafinil AKA Provogil is used to treat narcolpsy, but also for shift workers that have to stay alert for long periods of time. I believe it is also used in the military.
Unlike caffeine or amphetamines, it has little or no cardiovascular side effects.
I’m not sure how effective it is as an ergogenic aid.
It makes you HYPER focused. Often abused by college students as well. Often called a smart drug.

More on the perception side. It’s a HTFU drug. Helps perform to biological potential without letting things like pain and prior non-phys limitations get in the way.

speaking of which, and not that I’m looking, but every now and then you’ll see a suspicious bulge on a guy on the pro tour and it makes me wonder how they are applying Viagra in their doping routine.

Not so sure about few side effects. Had a pt with a neuro problem several years ago, gave it. Side effects were flash pulmonary edema and acute congestive heart failure, leading to a fall and head injury. Maybe rare side effects, but still not worth risking for a race.
