2026 Oscars

List isn’t out yet, but the Critics’ Choice Awards were last night, so we’ll see how many of these make the Oscars’ list.

Who has seen what?

BEST PICTURE
Bugonia (Focus Features)
Frankenstein (Netflix)
Hamnet (Focus Features)
Jay Kelly (Netflix)
Marty Supreme (A24)
One Battle After Another (Warner Bros.) - WINNER
Sentimental Value (Neon)
Sinners (Warner Bros.)
Train Dreams (Netflix)
Wicked: For Good (Universal Pictures)

BEST ACTOR - Timothée Chalamet – Marty Supreme (A24)

BEST ACTRESS - Jessie Buckley – Hamnet (Focus Features)

BEST DIRECTOR - Paul Thomas Anderson – One Battle After Another (Warner Bros.)

And in TV, THE PITT won best drama, best actor (Noah Wyle) and best supporting actress (Katherine LaNasa - the nurse)

Frankenstein was fantastic, for all the reasons mentioned in it’s own thread.

Train Dreams isn’t Best Picture worthy, but it was outstanding. It’s beauty was in it’s sheer simplicity, but still overwhelmingly powerful.

Saw Bugonia, Frankenstein, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme, Sinners

Out of those - I’d vote OBAA. Marty Supreme and Bugonia are both great. Marty Supreme another chaotic pic from one of the Safdie brothers, in many ways combines Uncut Gems with their earlier pic Good Time (which is highly overlooked) - much flawed characters who will let nothing stop them from attempting to achieve their goals. Bugonia is less strange than Yourgos and Emma Stone’s earlier winner Poor Things, but excellent.

Supporting Actor, I think it would is close between Jesse Plemons in Bugonia and Sean Penn in OBAA.
Best Director - close between Del Toro and PTA.

watched half of Jay Kelly last night and am surprised it’s up for best picture. Sure, it’s quality; Clooney and especially Sandler are very good, but overall lukewarm. I may change my mind after the ending . . .

Well, I couldn’t make it past the first hour of One Battle After Another and I’m usually partial to Oscar worthy movies. I thought DiCaprio and Penn were doing great jobs playing their characters but the plot was just off in some way. And it lacked any sort of subtlety, it was basically hitting you over the head.

Only 2 different from the Golden Globes - no Jay Kelley or Wicked and add F1 (bit of a shocker) and The Secret Agent (a Brazilian film).

I can see F1 winning for sound or visual effects.

I’m surprised to see Sinners get a record 16 nominations.

Sinners was a good movie but not something earth shattering that I want to ever watch it again. We live in bizarre times that a movie like that gets this much acclaim.

I’ll make another thread but I made a pick’em group on espn (they’ll let you bet on anything…)

If it asks, pw: NoBikes

Watched Hamnet last night (Prime for $6.99) - - incredible movie. One of the best I’ve seen in a while.
