I have the giro commentary on today (wonders do not cease - though no ligget, roll really helps for me). It sure sounds like Jan Christen does his own thing and they were REALLY lucky the Gnar was so dialed in and already on the best wheels at the front (conversely Turner probably lost his chance by having to make up so much ground with the super fast lead in with several turns after JC jumped and Mas and Sobrero went full tilt to keep him in check.
Doing your own thing on UAE, hmmmmn, how does that work out for riders not named Pogacar?
As soon as I saw Christen tail-gunning I knew he was going to try the late attack. Itās not the first time heās done it; he likes to go from the very back of the group. Itās a Cat 3 tactic IMO and itās going to bite him big time one of these days.
I have seen enough of Christen to know he is not one of my favorite riders. His antics towards the Decathlon rider at UAE tour after they both crashed made it seem like he is an entitled thwat.
That wet descend in the Giro, both Eulalio and Arrieta crashing. Arrietaās enve wheel and tire looks like itās made of ice, he is losing traction even on a straight line.
Chapeau to Arrietta for persisting. I thought it was over for him after that crash, and then I thought it was over for him again after that wrong turn. Both those dudes looked wrecked at the end of that one.
I wonder about scenarios like that, making it back on. Combo of the brief ārestā as he maneuvered to get turned around and the adrenaline pumping from the f up and import of the situation? probably better it was that thin plastic tape - the fatter ācaution tapeā may have tangled up in Arietaās drivetrain a bit.
