So, no penalty for entering the draft zone & then dropping out of the draft zone without completing the pass.

Hmmmmm…

That’s for “non-competitive” races only according to the power point. I’m not sure what qualifies as a non-competitive race. This sounds like the proposal in the other thread about having one division where rules apply and another division where they don’t really apply.

This is the entire script from the slide in question:

Biggest Impacts for All!

Competitive Races and Waves and Non-Competitive Races and Waves Rules

Additional examples of NC Rules
NC5.1 Cycling Conduct
Warn and amend for infractions of the position foul rules.
Allowing athletes who cannot complete an attempted pass in the allotted
amount of time to drop back out of the draft zone without penalty.
NC6.1 Running Conduct
Warn and amend for all infractions of the competition rules other than disqualification

IMHO, boy did they make it hard to distinguish who that applies to…

There is now an complete “non competitive” subsection of the rulebook (starts on page 61). It denotes what now becomes “recreational” for some athletes, and in the instance of what you noted, that is for the non competitive division (NC designation).

I found a few good ones

(page 9) Rule 2.2 K
No more speedo’s only on the bike and run legs of national championships, unlike the UCI I guess they are not trying to preserve the aesthetics of triathlon haha.

(page 19) Rule 5.9 B
Appears to ban bikes with mixed wheel sizes, if that is not the case this is poorly written. I don’t remember if this was there before.

(page 26) Rule 5.12 C iii:
“The only allowed riding position in draft-legal events requires that the only points of support are the following: the feet on the pedals, the hands on the handlebars and the seat on the saddle (see figure below).”

The figure below shows someone riding with invisible aerobars, contriving the rule haha. Who edits this? And “seat” on the saddle?

? And “seat” on the saddle?

I’d have opted for “tookus”

I’m not “opposed” to the rules, but with the speedo thing, no-shirtless rule, and fear of writing, “buttocks,” there is a slight prudish vibe. Agree it’s a departure from the “bunch of mavericky people on the beach” birth of triathlon.

But at a regular oly tri I can still wear a speedo right? My wife is terrified I might make good on the promise to wear one at her first Oly distance and I’d hate to think that opportunity has passed me by.

Haha. Yes, it’s just for the age group world qualifiers.

I have to imagine the name “Justin Lippert” came up when they were writing that rule.

Note to add that USA Triathlon has featured Lippert and his “full send”-mostly-naked look on the cover of their magazine, Twitter posts, etc., over the last several years.

LOL watching him zip by me at 2018 sprint distance nats definitely is what came to my mind. It was a time trial start.
