2022 Concert Thread

Any fans of The Front Bottoms here. They just announced a local show that I’m adding to the list.

Man, just missed Midnight Oil at a small venue here

Man Brandi was on fire. Given Friday’s ruling, it wasn’t a dirge, but a celebration of the fight to come. And just great freaking music, she is a really good performer. Encore included a beautiful unreleased duet with Marcus Mumford. And the Greek Theater is a stunning venue.

Added Arcade Fire in November

Also going to add 2 night of Roger Waters in Sept. Going to sit in two separate areas, his show are so visually stunning that you can appreciate different perspectives

Thanks for the report - I’ll bet she was so good. And yes, the Greek is a great place to see a show.

Off the top of my head…

Tori Amos
Midnight Oil, Puscifer and Jack Johnson - all in the span of 4 days
Donavon Frankenreiter
Rage Against the Machine
Tom Jones. Me and the wife saw him years ago and had a blast and have been trying to see him again since, and the opening show of his just-announced US tour happens to be 1) in Atlantic City 2) on our anniversary
Pearl Jam
Possibly Roger Waters and Alice in Chains

So far, Midnight Oil has been the standout show for me… for a 69 year-old, Peter Garrett still rocks like a maniac on stage and the show was a perfect mix of new stuff and the old standards. Bittersweet that I finally got to see a band I’ve listened to for so long, but will likely never get the chance again (if the band are to be believed).

Puscifer was a pleasant surprise too - kind of weird (but good) to see MJK having so much fun on stage, especially compared to Tool and APC shows.

Jack Johnson got COVID so that show got postponed for a few weeks.

Failed miserably at getting PJ tickets, but did get Roger Waters ones.

Saw them 35+ years ago…damn, I feel old.

The venue they played in Philly is a ~2500 capacity old industrial warehouse (if you ever saw Foo Fighters’ 2-Dollar Bill show for MTV, that’s it)… after the first couple of songs, Garrett said it reminded them of the old club shows they used to play in Sydney when they were first starting out, so they wanted to deliver a similar kind of show. Seemed to work too. A lot of the other venues I’ve seen footage from the US leg have been larger/“slicker” (e.g. Hammerstein Ballroom, a casino at the National Harbor in DC to close out the tour) and there was a lot of chatter in the FB fan groups that Philly got lucky in terms of venue and setlist.

I rarely go to concerts but a friend gave me tickets to Dead and Company at Folsom Field in Boulder last weekend and I really enjoyed it. Perfect weather, beautiful views and great music.

The Electric Factory - I’m sorry, Franklin Music Hall?

I’ll never get used to saying that

Exactly.

Same here, I still refer to it as the Electric Factory.

Update:

Nathaniel Rateliff & NS in September
Ziggy & Stephen Marley, tribute to Bob in July

The Marley concert was last night. I’ve seen dozens of concerts and this was easily in my top three all time. All Bob songs, a good mix of hits and deeper tracks. Ziggy is an absolute specimen of a performer, and Stephen’s voice is nearly indistinguishable from his father’s.

Man, that was such a treat.

That’s where I saw Tool for the first time. #1 concert experience of all time for me.

Last night we attended a performance of Carmena Burana at the Hollywood Bowl. Los Angles Master Chorale with Dudamel conducting. Spectacular performance.

I have heard snippets of this piece many times, and really, so has every other person, since its used in one out of four movie trailers involving supernatural, thriller, epic saga type movies. The complete symphony including the chorus and soloists was quite a show.

Next concert is a week from Sunday: cover bands of The Smiths and Depeche Mode at the Orange County Fair.

I don’t think I’ll ever not call it the Electric Factory. It’s always been that to me. I also struggle with MLK Blvd and still call it West River Drive from time to time.

It was a few weeks ago - but I saw Garth Brooks during his stadium tour.

For a 60 year old - he still puts on a pretty good show. Add in Trisha Yearwood at the end and it was a great night.

RATM is next up on the schedule… hoping the band can last until at least Wednesday night without any further incidents.

I was tripping on mushrooms, front row against the rail, directly in front of Maynard. The intro to Third Eye seemed to go on for days, MJK seemingly hovering and pulsating with the lights and music. It’s one of the most intense sensory experiences I’ve ever had. Absolutely insane energy.

This is the show.

Jack white in 2 weeks

Scary pockets end of august.

Smashing pumpkins/janes addiction in Oct.

Saw RATM last night… for a bunch of middle-aged guys (and Zack sitting on a stage monitor with his busted ankle/foot in a boot the whole show) the energy they brought to the arena was incredible. I’m still wound up this morning! The place was going nuts - with multiple pits going on the floor - when the house lights went up at the end of ‘Killing In The Name’.

Whoever shot this must have been in or close to the same section as us:

And due to a communication fuck-up between me and my buddy (he somehow forgot he’d bought tickets back in early 2020 when he texted me a couple of months ago about me getting tickets for him, his gf, me and my wife - then on the way to DC yesterday we realized we’d bought tickets for two different nights!) I’m now seeing Roger Waters Friday AND Saturday of this week.

A couple weeks ago while lounging around the pool my daughter put on Jack Johnson on the outdoor speakers. Much like Sarah McLachlan, after about 5 minutes I wanted to drowned myself. All his stuff sounds the same.

Saw Counting Crows last week at the OC Fair in California. A different crowd than I’m used to in my area, they just kind of sat there and watched the show, very little enthusiasm.

I loved the concert but man, older people like me need more energy.
