2017 SOS Sign up Oct 31 who's in?

Any ST’ers planning on racing next year?

Had not heard of this…wish it was closer to me…looks fun and painful.

Me, #3 hopefully (I’m the guy that borrowed your bike a couple years ago, did it this year as well)
.

Hope all is well Chris…always great to see return SOS family…

I raced SOS this year for the first time . . . this event is just off the charts awesome. Highly recommend!

In. See ya next fall

I’m in! first for me and looking forward to it!

I’m in this year … on sherpa duty though for my wife. Can’t wait! Anyone that’s been a spectator / crew / sherpa before have any tips?

Make sure you’re at the Awosting lot on time!!

Make sure you attend the post race feast.

Find something fun to do between those 2 things.

resurrecting an old thread because this has always been a bucket list race. appears it is not sold out for 2025 like it has in the past… maybe something to do with $820 registration? pretty sure when i’ve dabbled with registering in the past (pre covid) the cost was high but not unreasonable. maybe $300? when did it get astronomical?

When did the registration fee start spiking to a crazy amount $ ??

I got in for 2020 which was canceled and moved to 2021 and then I did it again in 2023.
If I remember, 2020 was in the $5-600 range and then 2023 was mid 700.

Yeah, moving up into that amount of money is a little crazy. It’s still a pretty grass roots thing, not really much in the way of road closures or anything.

Gotta be, in part, Mohonk House taking their cut to use the lake and grounds…

I was registered in 2020 and rolled over to 2021. When I tried to make a reservation at the Mohonk house for that weekend the cost was astronomical. I didn’t think the event would be as much fun without staying there (I’d done it in 2016), so I just didn’t go. Anyway, my point is if you want to stay at the Mohonk house for the weekend the crazy registration fee might be the least of your concerns.

Agreed. I wouldn’t even consider staying at that place at the prices I’ve seen

We had an AirBnB in town which was great for us.

i do not envy the job of a race director, and am very thankful that they do what they do. but i keep coming across these cool races that i would love to do, but the registration fees are insane. i did sea to summit in 2015, still have my email receipt at $290. today is $545+fees. i know costs have gone up , but if you look at other sports’ entry fee (cycling, running, adventure races etc) they have not gone up to this degree. it’s always been an expensive sport, but i don’t want to see races get priced out of existence.

I am good friends with a RD, and it is amazing the behind the scenes fees, or how some people feel this is an opportunity to ask for more $$. The SOS fees seem to increase a bit more then other races.

I registered for the 2020 ($575 USD) event which was cancelled. 2021, coming from Canada the US border was still closed and they were kind enough to defer. Finally got in for 2022 but with an additional $100USD fee. Loved the race and want to go back but the current fees are just too high. I noticed last year registration was open into the spring. I would expect the same this year.

I’d never heard of it so I looked it up

New Paltz, NY

  1. ride 30 mi
  2. run 4.5
  3. swim 1.1
  4. run 5.5
  5. swim .5
  6. run 8
  7. swim .5
  8. run .7

I’m kind of surprised not to see more cycling for a tri. Seems like a swim-run event with a quick bike up front.

30 ride
18.7 run
2.1 swim

The bike is also funny because they start you in groups and tell you not to draft, which of course everyone does.
