2014 Valentine's Day Kona Lottery

Please tell me the 50 dollars goes to a charity cause, and not to WTC.

I guess I’m a bit olde skool. Lotteries in connection with sports events are supposed to be for charity, and not yet another way of squeezing a few more dollars out the event.

The other lottery you get way better odds.

Mind you if you are slow you are better off dropping 40k on an ebay slot and doing kona and then finding a new sport.

save about 6 yrs of your live too.

How do you know which lottery has better odds? Unless you know how many entries there are in each you can’t determine it

Valentines one has ONE spot, regular lottery has 100.

Valentines one has ONE spot, regular lottery has 100.

True but if you don’t know the entries, you don’t know the odds.

Who would want to spend 50 dollars without knowing the odds, and without the money going to a good cause?

50 dollars is a lot of money. That’s the same as the entrance fee for many local short distance triathlons.

As some one who has entered the Kona lottery for the past 8 years with out being selected, I view this as playing Russian roulette with a auto loader hand gun. Tim

anybody doing this? i entered the regular lottery and just found out about this one.

What was the P.T. Barnum quote?

Im sure this has been covered in the past, but what are the odds of the general lottery? Id like to speculate only a handful of people sign up for the V-day lottery (better oddds?).

“A triathlete and their money will soon part”?

Im sure this has been covered in the past, but what are the odds of the general lottery? Id like to speculate only a handful of people will admit that they signed up for the V-day lottery (better oddds?).

fixed it for you.

I didn’t but if I had signed up for the general lottery as I may do next year, I probably would have signed up for this one too. I suspect the odds aren’t that much worse (if worse at all) as the number of entrants was probably quite low.

touche haha
.

My sweet wife surprised me this morning with a thoughtful card for Valentine’s Day, where inside it stated the following:

“Dearest Husband: I love you so much. For Valentine’s Day, I entered you in the Ironman Valentine’s Day drawing, where the winner gets a spot to race in Kona. This has always been your dream, where I love you so much that I hope it comes true and you win that spot. Love, Wife.”

I lowered the card, looked at my loving wife, then angrily tore up the card into a thousand pieces and stated, “Shame on you. If I won the Ironman Valentine’s Day drawing, I wouldn’t go to Kona, because people on Slowtwitch would get angry and say I didn’t earn my spot to Kona.”

Happy Valentine’s Day.

you didn’t.

My wife did the same thing and I’m praying I don’t win the slot. I didn’t have the stones to do what you did though, I would have gotten slapped!

I was definitely joking.

Winner announced on Ironman’s FB page… Congrats to Landon Mitchell.
