2013 Trek Speed Concept 9 vs 2014 Trek Speed Concept 9

Hello,

I have a choice to make here, How much difference between two bike ? Is they make huge difference in bike split (70.3 and Ironman) between 2013 and 2014 Trek SC ?

1-2014 Trek Speed Concept 9.8- $8k +
2- 2013 Trek Speed Concept 9.9- $3000-4000

I would appreciate any opinions.

Consider the 2014 7 series. Splits the gap on prices, identical aerodynamics to the 2014 9 series with just a slightly different layup and dropouts.

How much it will be difference between 2013 Trek SC 9 and 2014 Trek SC 7? 2014 Sc will be faster than 2013 SC 9?

Information on how much faster:
http://www.slowtwitch.com/images/trek/TK13_SC_Whitepaper_final.pdf

The Trek website has the Speed Concept 7.5 listed at $4,200

.

The 2014 SC7 is identical, aerodynamically, to the 2014 SC9 - it’s differences in construction, like the type of weave and the carbon dropouts, that set the SC9 apart.

about 4W (mostly the fork) but only if you upgrade the hardware on the 2013 bars. IIRC the clamps on that setup are bulky and tririg do replacements.

Anyone experience similar to this? Feel free to input your experience or feedback.

What else do you want to know?

I had a 2012 SC and then got the gen 2 back in 2014. Very happy that I did. It’s even more adjustable and easier to travel with. The front end is vastly improved as far as taking it apart or making adjustments. Bigger draft box. Is the upgrade worth it? IMO, it is but only you and your wallet can decide that for you.

Edit: Forgot to add that the gen 2 has the set screws on the rear brake to quickly adjust. That was only on the front brake for gen 1. A very nice feature to have.

I just want to know, is it easy to find a part to adjust to my fitting bike. How much it is difference between both bike? feel ride smoother? handle?

I can tell you that on the Gen 2 SC unless you have DI2, adjustment is a real PITA

If you go DI2, its much simpler. Only problem is all components are trek proprietary, so you are paying a lot more than you would for a traditional TT bike unless you find the parts used.

Easy to find a part, any dealer can source it.

For SC Gen 1, I assume that as time goes on the difficulty in finding parts will increase. Also I hear its harder to work on, but I have no first hand experience.

The second generation SC is significantly improved. Just the rear brake adjustment via allen key alone is a huge improvement in usability. There’s no way I would pay $8K for a 2014 SC, especially if its used and not new old stock. You are better off getting a Gen 2 Seven series, which is what I have. It’s aerodynamically identical and only very slightly heavier than the 9 series.

+1. Neither of these bikes is worth your quoted price. You can generally find a previous year’s Gen 2 7.5 brand new for 3,000$. I paid 1500$ for my 7.5 module ( bars, stem, frame, fork, brakes). Especially with the move to disc brakes, these bikes aren’t worth that kind of money.

I would also question need for the 9 series. As others have mentioned, there is very little practical difference between the 7.5 and 9. Yes it is a touch lighter, but I would guess most people bought them for the higher component spec of Dura Ace versus Ultegra, nicer wheels, and more color choices.

Your reply is to a 4 year old thread that has just been resurrected.

.

I’m curious as to why the OP resurrected his own thread also. How does one take 4 years to decide to buy a bike?
