Finally got my Shiv Expert built up yesterday, and am ready to stick it on the internets to see what people think. Please note, I have NOT been fitted to this bike, hence there are lots of spacers etc still there that will be removed come Sunday.
The upgrades are the H3 and H3D wheels, Corsair aerobar, dura ace chain and Look Keo Blade pedals. I’ll be putting a better saddle on there to chop down some more weight. Currently, it weighs in at 8.61kg, not too bad for a bike with this much carbon and those (relatively heavy) wheels on there.
There are a few pictures down below:
If anyone has any questions regarding the Shiv, don’t hesitate to either reply or send me a PM.
Sick bike, ugly wheels! The wheels kind of ruin the bikes look in my opinion. If you had some zipp fc 808’s on there…night and day difference in looks IMO.
Would love to see more photos of the standard stem setup as opposed to the integrated aerobar one. If you could post or email (PM me for my email) that would be great.
The bike is really nice and so are the colors you chose for the walls. Is that a picture of you or your son plain baseball next to the rack of cd’s. And good choice of wheels. The bladder looks easy enough to clean. I thought it would be a nightmare to take care of…evidently not.
Odin, have just taken the bladder for a quick spin. It works really well! Easy to get in and out if you follow the instructions. When filling it up I had to poke the hose down to clear more room for the water to get in as the bladder was sticking together at the top, but thats no big issue. I’ve seen some people posting that they are having issues with getting the water through the hose, but in my experience it’s a non issue. The magnet is a little weak, but it only came off when I hit the bump to come back into my driveway. There are bumps that big on my local roads, so it may be a little annoying but it’s a quick movement to pop it back to the magnet, or could even just leave it hanging.
Hey thanks for the photos. I was acutally looking for photos of the stem/HED bar setup on the bike now. I am thinking of going that route and want to see how clean the install is and how the cables are managed. Feel free to PM me for my email me if you like.
Well, the stem/aerobar junction at the headtube is my key interest since I am trying to figure out how the non-integrated front end looks and functions. In the Pro model it is an integrated, standard length stem and the aerobar, but you have a standard stem and your aerobar.
Do you think it will be an issue filling it up with water while racing?
Is it as easy as opening the top and pouring the water down from one of these water bottles you get in aid stations? or you going to end up loosing half the water trying to poke the hose down and open the bladder? Also, do you only need one hand to refill the bladder?
Great bike Leghorn. Love it!
rmg - I also had to switch from Med to small at the last minute. The shop manager ordered me a medium just bc I’m 5’11" - and when I pushed the issue about stack being too tall he finally did a fit at that point and called Specialized with the change. I’m glad I caught it after reading Nick Salazar’s article on TriRig.
The bladder is super easy to open with one hand (even when that hand has a bottle in it), re-fill it and cap it. No sloshing, no problems.
