Does this ad look legit? The pic looks like the 2011 compact comp rival. And maybe the 2012 Ultegra is $3300, but the $2011 105 was more like $2700, right?
This is my like new Specialized Roubaix Comp Compact with FULL SHIMANO 105 component group (not some 105, ALL 105, including right down to the brakes). It is a full carbon fiber bike with full carbon fiber products (seat post etc, which many “carbon” bikes do not have). It has full shimano 105 components, the entire group, including brakes etc. Also comes with MAJOR upgrade on the wheel set. Fulcrum Racing wheels which alone sell for $800. My guess is if you are looking at this ad than you know what the bike is, and what it can do. My wife is making me sell it, basically because I just do not ride it. I have a bad back and cannot ride. It is ideal for someone 5’8-6’0" depending on your body and size (leg length, inseam, torso length etc) Here is the link to the actual bike. (BTW PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT SEND LOW BALL OFFERS LIKE THE GUY WHO OFFERED $1700 the other day! THE BIKE was ridden one time! Check website…new bike, same specs is $3300 NEW. Get it here for $1300 less with same specs and 30 miles on it.
I purchased the SRAM Rival version and have one that looks exactly like it. I paid $2100 for it brand new at the local shop (10% discount is their standard floor price). They also offered the same exact bike but with a full 105 kit for the exact same price. Note that the higher end one had the colors reversed.
For the 2012 model, the price is now $2750.
And the stock wheels were Fulcrum Racing “6” (a mix between the 5 and 7’s) and are worth about $300.
It sounds like the guy is trying to sell it for what he bought it for by playing the 2011 → 2012 list price change.
So let me get this right, he takes a $2100 bike (brand new, with full support and unquestionable warranty), pulls off $300 in wheels + $100 in the cassette (i’m rounding off here) and then offers lightly it used for $1500?
If I walked into the same shop I got that bike from last year, I would expect to pay $1899 for it brand new (as last years model) with wheels and full support.
Oddly enough I had the option of walking out with the 105 equiped bike or waiting 3 months for the rival one, I ordered the rival equipped one. I just didn’t like the 105 shifters with bare hands (and the extra 1/2lb in weight savings was also a bonus).
$1,500 + 300 for wheels and another 100 for a cassette puts you more or less right at the cost of a new one from a shop (assuming they had it in stock). Unless I’m missing something, I’m not seeing a good deal here.
If I had to sell mine I would probably look for $1500 for it, but that is with wheels but some cosmetic stuff on the left chain stay from actual use (drop the chain once and you’ll get that on a white bike).
I’d call around the local shops first to see what they still have in stock from last year first. Otherwise I would go used because they cranked the cost of that bike up a good bit for the 2012 model year.
