2011 P4 wheel selection

I am having a P4 built up as we speak. I am going with the new 2012 Zipps. I am up in the air between 404 & 808 FC CC and still am considering Tubulars in the same wheels. Does anyone have fit experience with this P4? Thanks for the help

hi,

I have a new 404/808 Firecrest Tubulars on my P2 (not quite a P4). They feel so great when riding them, i just can’t take them off since getting them. I know everyone says don’t train on them, but hey, why not enjoy my riding ALL the time !

Anyway, the biggest problem is that i do half ironman events and i am very concerned about getting a flat (or 2) during a race and not being able to change them… Yes, i know about strectching and pre-glueing etc… But just not sure if that is the best solution during a race, so am considering going to the Carbon clinchers instead…

I am interested to know if anyone has ridden/used both the 808 tubulars vs carbon clinchers.

808FC front
flat disc rear!

why flat disc? due to rubbing?
not to hijack the thread, but whats the best wheel combo for a 2011 p3? i want clinchers… was thinking jet 9s or s80’s with a disc cover… which ever set i can get my hands on without selling a kidney… zipps are outta my reach!

supposedly flat discs are quickets on the P3 and P4 frames. this according to hints from gerard and a few others.

on the other hand, a wheelcover or hed style disc will handle like a normal wheel, if that is a concern.

jet90/s80 front + wheelcover rear is the budget way to go for sure!

If you are ever concerned about flatting with tubulars, put some Stans in the tubulars (by removing the valve core). This is why I recommend this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKLB8ah0v3Y

Would azipp sub9 work on a p4
.

I have a P3 and use a 404 up front and an 808 in the back…great versatility. I used this wheel combination in St. George and it proved to be excellent for the short steep climbs and the ride back into town even with significant cross wind.

Cervelo’s recommendation to me was a 900 disc. I wanted to stick with an aluminum rim to avoid having to change brake pads on the rear brake.

Really impressive video. I would be curious if the Stan’s in the tube effects rolling resistance.
