thats 1 road id commercial…
I’ll bet 6 total.
This SUCKS! It feels nothing like the amazing race that it was. They downplayed craig’s cramps to the max. They took the soul of this race and killed it.
I have watchedjsut about every race from Kona going way back to the ABC days, this has to be the worse coverage ever. Men off the bike in 35 minutes of broadcast time, with all the commercials and personal interests stories. Come on I know that we are not the audience they are aiming at but REALLY
There is no soul in this “race” whatsoever. It’s a passive story. Like basically reading a results sheet, you have no idea what really happened.
It was odd. Somehow it seemed that they didn’t focus too much on the special interest stuff, yet still had hardly any real story to the pro race. and did they have to show those fellows at the end falling over and over? that made me feel awful.
They always show a few of the top finishers then then 16+ hour people…what about the others

Not in the pro race at all, they missed on that coverage…BUT how about those 3 guys shuffling to the finish? One of them even took out another guy half his age! Overall thought it was pretty weak coverage if you consider all the material then have.
See you next year Lew Hollander
Not to mention the commentator said so many things that were just plain wrong. Most of the pro men will exit the water in just over 40 minutes, last year was Miranda Carfrae’s first world title, Jacobs had the 3rd fastest marathon last year… There were so many more, it was just silly…
NBC is playing JV. Not worth watching.
Did not enjoy it at all!
the lady who finished in 17:00:04 got more coverage than the top 5 overall amateurs??? this coverage is getting pretty embarrassing to watch…
Lame broadcast.
LMAO at USA Tri asking if that broadcast inspired anyone.
Everyone says the same thing every year. It’s never going to change, that’s pretty much a fact, so I dont know why people expect something new every year.
Would you rather have (a) this show, giving national attention to the sport, allowing sponsors to gain exposure, and put more money in the sport, hopefully making it grow, or (b) no show at all…
I’ll take option a every day of the week and twice on sundays.
I always think of not watching, but end up anyway. Every time I am annoyed/disgusted and find it slightly embarrassing/degrading… This is all the general populace knows of this sport, and they make it look like it is not a sport at all. Universal sports showed up on my provider a year ago or so. They had lots of the Ironmans and some halfs and olys that kept showing up regularly. They actual did the pro race only and made it a competition with real sports commentating, not a human interest piece. After a few months the channel disappeared. That was the end of that…
inspired me to turn the tv off, take a dump, and get on slowtwitch… so yes, it inspired me!
As I said on the previous Kona thread, our sport is reduced to reality tv. Next it will join the WWE and become sports entertainment rather than a race. The Pros can be given different personna to liven up the entertainment during the boring SBR bits.
All those old dudes falling over and breaking shit. See how that one guy smashed the traffic barrier? Tax payers of Hawaii should be outraged. I hope they send him the bill. Looked like a 10 minute “Life-Alert” commercial:
“Help!! I’ve fallen and I’m trying to finish the Ironman!”
On a positive note the footage from the early portion of the bike was excellent. The slow-motion shots of Crowie and Chrissie on the run were equally good. Swim footage was great
That last 20 minutes was just horrible.
I have to disagree. Watching from underneath the swimmers in slow mo was horrible. They almost never showed anything not in slow mo for the bike/run either. All footage was equally shitty.
