Hi there
Long time lurker, first time poster on ST!
I’m wondering if you can confirm whether the 2011 B16 is a different frame to the current B16?
I’m 6’3" and eyeing up a 58cm 2011 on ebay, but the size guide I found for 2011 says I need a 60 (current guide says 58, 60). Any thoughts on how exact the size guide is and how flexible the fit is?
Many thanks
they should be the same. Felt didnt change the B16 frame geometry, just the paint and components. The bike runs long and low. There is quite a bit of room for adjustment since it uses a standard stem and pretty adjustable aero bars. I am 5’10 and used to have a 54 and it was pretty long on me; probably could have used a size smaller
Agreed, a ton of adjustability to work with. I would try to sell you mine over in the classifieds, but it’s a 52 so that might be a bit of a stretch.
I’m also 5’10" on a 54cm B16. Offhand, I would say that a 58 would be good for someone with my proportions up to about 6’1" height. A B16 front end has a lot of reach adjustability, so a 58 might work for you, if the extensions and steering tube have not been trimmed for a smaller rider. Weight distribution might also be an issue for you on the smaller frame. If it were my money I would work with a good fitter first before picking a tri bike.
Good thoughts thank you people.
Just checked with the vendor and nothing’s been cut down or modified.
It’s still got two days to run on ebay, and I’m clicking ‘refresh’ on my watch list about every 15 minutes!
I am just under 6’4" and ride a 2012 B16 60. I am quite comfortable on the bike and haven’t felt overstretched at all. I have thought about testing out a 58 (especially as I think about upgrading my bike) but have’t spent any real time on a bike that size. As others have said I think you can get comfortable on either as long as you get a solid bike fitting.
good luck! if you end up getting it I think you will really enjoy it as its a great bike
Got her! Picked her up on Monday and just had the chance to get out for an hour on her now (the fit was ugly and the seatpost kept slipping; getting it all sorted with a Retul fit on Tuesday).
I’ve already swapped out the Felt TTR3 wheels for my Vision Trimax Pros (30mm Alu clinchers, dry weight about 1500g) which has made her almost 1.5kg lighter already. My 11-28 cassette fitted as well which is great because 39/25 would have left me struggling on steep hills.
What’s the thinking on aero benefits of a fat rim section (ie TTR3) vs a narrow one (Vision) for wheels of the same depth - does it make a significant difference?
