2011 Cannondale Slice Hi-Mod vs Regular

I’m thinking of buying a used 2011 Slice 5 for around $1000. Since it’s the Slice 5, it is the regular frame and not the hi-mod frame? What are the differences between these frames, and how much better is the hi-mod frame compared to the regular “non hi-mod” frame? What is the weight difference? Is there any difference in ride feel? Also, is $100 is good price for a good condition used 2011 Slice 5? Thanks.

dont worry about this high mod thing… we wont feel the difference… its a selecion of the frame as far as i know, but no technical difference…

Post a Pic of the bike, that is much more interesting…

There is not much difference, the Hi-MOD is maybe 100 or so grams lighter so not really worth much the extra cost compared to the regular. With that being said I do have the Hi-MOD and not having ridden a “non Hi-MOD” I could not tell u a difference. Since it is otherwise the same I doubt there is real much of a difference. I think 1k for a complete slice is an awesome deal, I can’t say enough good things about this bike. I was going to get a P5 since I always wanted a Cervelo but looking at my bike, I just can’t part with it. I mean if Chrissie rocked it on a Slice I am pretty sure you will like it.

I’ve got the 2011 Hi-mod, I haven’t rode the none hi-mod version but I can tell you for a fact that the Hi-mod is awesome. Lighting fast without being painfully aggressive or an unforgiving ride. I run fresh off it every time.

It’s a timeless classic, it will be a sad day when I have to get rid of it.

From what I’ve read the Hi-mod climbs and descends a little better but I can’t back that claim up.

My HI-Mod 2010 Slice comes in at 17lbs 7 ounces for a size 58cm with Zipp 404 wheels, pedals and saddle. No waterbottles included in the weight. You could have a fine deal.

Has anyone written both the Hi-Mod and regular frames and/or has the non-Hi-Mod frame?

In short, you are not going to be able to tell the difference between the two Slice frames.

In short, you are not going to be able to tell the difference between the two Slice frames. Thanks for the links. Several of them I haven’t seen before.

I suppose 1/2 lbs. more frame weight isn’t too bad, but it’s more than I had thought. But for $1000 , it’s not too bad. Then again, if I wait and find a used hi-mod frame version, how much more would that cost me?

If I found a slice 5 for a $1000 around here I would definately let I couple of guys I know of about it. Likewise, if I found one for a $100 (last line of the quote) I would be jumping all over it no matter what the size:P

All kidding a side, I ride a Slice 5 (stock except for wheels)… however while it was in the shop for some maintenance I did have the opportunity to ride a fully tricked out Hi-mod for a few weeks. The only difference I really noticed was in the cockpit (VukaAERO bars vs. the PD T2 plus bars but thats also comparing apples to oranges). Otherwise the frame felt the same… or I didn’t really notice any big difference between the two really. All in all my only beef with the Slice 5 is the cockpit specs… which I am currently looking into upgrading. The PD T2 plus clip-ons and more specifically the J2 armrest/brackets are a thorn in my side. I am constantly having to re-adjust and tighten them. They are way beyond the frustrating and annoying point now.

Would I, if needed, re-purchase a slice 5 - Absolutely and with-out a doubt yes… but I would change the PD T2 plus out sooner than later… but you might have a better time with these aerobars than I have had.

I need to decide soon if I want a Cannondale Slice (size 58cm) with the regular or hi-mod frame? I can deal with the Shimano 105 grouppo on the intro model, and will likely sell or give away the wheels. I will likely change out the saddle, crank (want 170 or 172.5 crank arms, not 175mm that comes standard with 58cm frame sizes), and possibly the bars (depending on how the stock bars fit me). Down the line I’ll likely upgrade the grouppo too. I can build up the intro model Slice over time. However, the core of the bike is the frame, and with the non-hi-mod version weighing 1/2 more than the hi-mod frame, there’s little I can do to upgrade this part of the bike.

But how much will I really upgrade? Better wheels - a must. Saddle and bars that fit me perfectly - yes. Shorter cranks - yes. But more than likely I’ll live with the 105 grouppo. And when it comes time to really upgrade I’ll likely upgrade the frame too. So, what’s 1/2 pound for a $1000 bike? It sounds like the regular frame behaves similarly to the hi-mod frame, and aero trumps weight for TTs. Then again, I have time to wait (don’t need the bike until spring). So, could I find a good deal on a hi-mod framed bike for not much more money than $1000? I’m not sure how to proceed.

Analysis paralysis.

Sounds like you will always want the hi-mod, so just buy it. Buy right and buy once…
