Thanks for checking this post. I just finished a prelim fitting of a Cervelo 2010 P3 Ultegra. I really liked the bike and expect to make a few modifications on the components and maybe aero bars before bringing it home.
The list price, 2010 model, was $3,600. I quickly got the price down to $3.200 and a “final” price of $3,000. When I went home and checked out other LBSs online inventory I found the same model for $2,965 and I found a 2011 model for $3,265! Am I crazy for thinking I should get the price down from $3,000 to $2,650? Maybe slightly lower/ higher?
Im really interested in the bike, but I want to get the best deal. Thanks for your feedback.
I just got fit for one. The list price is $3350 now and you should try the share the deal so it would be $2,350. I wouldn’t press your luck any lower if you get this deal as the shop has spent the time and effort to fit you.
Great idea. Funny, the shop is actually hooking me up w a silent partner for the Cervelo 2 for 1 deal. The bike, at $3,000, will be $2k. My thought is to bring down the base price to the $2,600-$2,750 range to start… Then work the 2 for 1 deal. I’m guessing the LBS has margin in even a $2,600 selling price?
All. I’m not even sure there is any difference between the 2011 and 2012 other than bars, which my shop does not worry about. I do believe the 2010 may be different than the 2011 and 2012 and due to this, you may be able to bargain more. (it is a 2 yr old bike from a resale perspective)
I’m trying to get the best base price, call it $2,650-2,800, before the/ if the Cervelo 2 for 1 deal (addit $1,00 off) comes through. Aside from the 2 for 1, is $2,650-2,800 a good deal for a P3 Ultegra 2010 model?
Thank you all again for checking in and providing feedback.

If you are getting the “2 for 1” deal, don’t expect the dealer to be willing to adjust their price much. If the dealer already has it @ $3K and is offering the $1k, you walk out the door with a P3 for 2 grand.
Fine print on the Cervelo deal is pretty clear–the $1,000 is off the MSRP, not discounted price
I don’t see that in my email fine print:

FAQ Question: Some local dealers have marked down the price on in-stock Cervélo models. Does the Share the Ride $2,000 rebate apply in addition to the reduced price? Answer: **The $2,000 rebate applies only to the original MRSP **and can’t be combined with any other discounts, offers or promotions. Please note that the Cervélo P1 is excluded from this promotion.
Thank you all very much for the feedback. We’ll see if I get the $1,000 off msrp or if the lbs applies it on the discounted price. Either way I’m going w the P3 2010. Thanks!,
If the shop has a 2010 in stock, they sure as hell better offer you a discount over a 2012 price. Would you buy a new 2010 car at a dealership and expect to pay MSRP? Now we all know that it is the same bike, and they are both new. Here is the difference. In a year when you decide to upgrade to a P5 - do you think you will be able to sell the “1 year old P3” or the “3 year old P3” for more money?
The amount of that discount will vary, 10 -20% would seem reasonable to me. I would think this would be a separate issue from the $1000 off coupon, and would balk on the sale if it isn’t. That’s just me. Otherwise, get a 2012 for resale value.
I was all set to buy two Cervelo P2 Ultegras until a dealer informed me that the $2K Share the Ride promotion applies only to the MSRP price.
It’s funny that under this new requirement (which is not in the fine print of the promotion), you can actually get two 2012 Cervelo P3 Ultegras (MSRP $3350) for less than two 2011 Cervelo P3 Ultegras (MSRP $3700).
Also, to make matters worse, according to the fine print, the promotion is not valid unless the dealer can obtain two bikes from Cervelo in your proper sizes and sell them to you before 1/31. In other words, there is some question about whether dealers can even get the bikes in time if they don’t already have them them in stock. This is even true for 2012 models, which Cervelo presumably hasn’t sold many of yet.
In short, the Cervelo Share the Ride promotion is not as good as it sounds.
That’s why I bought a Specialized Shiv Comp Rival. Dealers are selling the Shiv Comp Rival for $3000 (just $650 more than the P3 with the $1K discount per bike applied). Of course, my decision was also heavily influenced by my FIST fitting numbers, which show I need a tall and narrow bike like the Shiv, not a short and long bike like the P3.
