2006 Specialized Transition with road set up

I ride a 2006 Specialized Transition and have been very happy with it as a dedicated TT bike for a couple of years now. This bike is, I suppose, a “psuedo” tri bike with a 75 degree seat angle. I ride at 4cm behind the BB so I’m around 77 degrees in tri set up.

I am looking to move the seat back a couple of cm and replace the Vision front end with road bars and STI so I can have a more relaxed position for winter riding. I’ve looked at the Specialized geometry v the Cervelo Soloist geometry and they are very similar.

Question is, if the Cervelo can play a role as a dual purpose bike, is there anything stopping my Specialized from doing the same thing? Is there anyone out there who has set up their pre 2008 Specialized Transition as a roadie?

DeeBee,

I have an 06 Transition and last off-season I was riding a lot of hills and wanted more of a roadie setup. I moved the seat back slightly and replaced the cockpit with drop bars, STI’s and a slightly less aggressive stem. I have since coverted it back to a tri setup for the racing season.

Now, I’m sure the purists will maintain you can’t do this and you won’t get much cred from the cafe set … but who really cares. Bottom line is the bike still rode well and served its purpose. I’m actually thinking on converting this bike to a dedicated roadie when I upgrade to a new tri frame. As you said the Pre 08 Transition is not an aggressive frame and hence lends itself to this type of conversion, providing you set it up properly.

I suggest give it a go and if you don’t like it just change back to the original setup.

Would you mind posting a pic? thanks.

Thanks, and yes, a pic would be great if possible.
