2005 goals

You gotta make us proud, dude, no slacking. We expect you to qualify for Kona on that P3.

My goal is to avoid another crappy year full of injuries and finally finish a race in the same position I go into T-2.

You’re right about the calendars not being up early enough Tibbs. That creates scheduling hassles.

For now my situation looks like this.

Nov. 20, 2004, Laguna Phuket Triathlon, Laguna Phuket, Thailand.

Late January 2005, Doug Stern’s Triathlon Training Camp, Curacao, Dutch Antilles.

Late January 2005, RBTT/Fatum Bank Triathlon Fest, Olympic Distance, Curacao, Dutch Antilles.

February 19, 2005, Moorea, French Polynesia, Tahiti Nui 1/2 Ironman, Moorea, Tahiti.

May 1, 2005, St Croix 1/2 Ironman, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Then the local stuff including the 3 duathlons (Willow, Grosse Ile, Nankin) and our own Elite Endeavors races (Ann Arbor, Waterloo, etc.). Definately the Steelhead 1/2 Ironman in Benton Harbor. I’d like to do Maumee Bay this year.

Either: Ironman UK (Marcie the Mermaid wants to do it) and/or Ironman Western Australia.

Definate MAYBEs: 1/2 Ironman Monaco.

It all depends how busy we are and how much it costs me to renovate my new (old) house. I already got a roof on it- now I need siding, windows, bathroom and a new garage.

Last year I got through almost everything I planned except IM Austria and 2 local races I was too busy for.

Bring it on.

IM NZ in March. After that, who knows.

clm

actually–

bring my run up to 6 miles w/o knee pain (currently a measly 3)

comfortably swim over 1 hour in open water

complete an oly if #1 & #2 is accomplished (ironhead dallas)

do all the local races: 4 dus, 5 sprints

get my splits down to:

1:30/100yd for 500 yds, 22 mph over 20K, 7:30 min/mi 5K
.

Thinking about IMNZ. DNF last year to illness, personal vendetta this year. After that depends on other things.

  1. Have fun

  2. Reclaim my Fiesta Biathlon crown (my favorite race)

  3. Sub 22 at the DBRT 10 mile TT series in Chapel Hill

Via PM Alabama, Blackwater Traverse, White Lake 1/2 IM, 1/2 IMFL (IMH Qualifier), some road TTs and a few other “fun” races.

What, no Powerman NC? Should be a fun one.

For me: Give Du’s a go in early season including March Mauler, PM Alabama, 1st peak for PMNC
Various local races, maybe Chatuge Challenge again. 2nd peak for a mid to late August 1/2 IM (thinking Buckeye 1/2, Timberman looks fun too, but am heading Northeast in Sept.) Survival of the Shawangunks in Sept. might relay the Duke Blue Devil IM again, unless I lose my mind and try and do the whole thing.

IM AZ (first IM) then take the summer “easy” (some sprints and so on) and find out what “other” people do during the summer. Then probably start training again when I find the non-tri obsessed life boring.

Tibbs how about the Tom Landry Sprint in very early May as your sprint race?

Sorry you missed the Abilene Du this a.m. you could have brought the field up to 34.

My main focus in 2005, is to try and go sub 3 in Boston and then try and go sub 3 in a fall marathon once I turn 40.

Before Boston, I plan to do four 50K XC ski races during the winter.

After Boston 3 weeks of down time.

Summer Schedule (half Ironman focus):

June: Muskoka Long Course Tri, Tupper lake Half Ironman

July: Peterborough Half Ironman (unless I am on family vacation)

Aug early: Ste. Agathe Half Ironman, Quebec

Aug late: Canadian Half (in Ottawa)

Sep: Perhaps Esprit Half Ironman in Montreal

Late Oct/EarlyNov: Fall Marathon, location TBD (needs to be downhill with a 40 mph tailwaind)

podium at the EndurRun.

What a nice thread…positive thinking, as I sit here on my butt, my bike growing dustier as the days go by. I really really want to finish a half (2 DNF’s in the past year due to injury). My main goal? To just stay healthy and STOP going to physical therapy! Maybe, just maybe, if the stars align and I"m still healthy come the end of summer, either Duke Iron or Chesapeakeman Ultra.

Back to tris next year: Peterborough 1/2 IM in July Either Kingston LC in August or Ottawa 1/2 IM in September, depending on family commitments Prep for the full IM in 2006 ? I’m looking at Duke Blue Devil, if it’s still around (I’d love to try it next year, but I’m really not sure I’ll be ready)

D.

I may swap White Lake for PM NC. Actually, it probably fits better for the 1/2 IMFL buildup.

My goal is to get my motivation and burning desire to train back. I lost that somehow… I want to go sub 11 at IMLP and qualify for Hawaii. That’s my number one goal, doing so having fun and staying healthy. A lot of smaller goals will lead to that one, once I get my drive back.

My goals for 2005 are to move up to Olympic distance races. I’m moving out to Saskatchewan in February for about eight months, and while the number of races out there isn’t as great as here in Ontario, there are a few olys to choose from. A secondary goal is to qualify for the Canadian CISM team, for the 2006 CISM championships in Sweden. Realistically, though, I think that goal is a bit of a pipe dream, since the course that I’m moving out there to take is going to keep me *very *busy for the whole time I’m there and training will have to take a back seat for the duration. That said, my goal for the winter is to get in the pool five days a week and get half-decent at swimming. Finally, Tom D’s article on Laguna Phuket has sold me on that race for next year.

Great Thread!

My goals for 2005: Beat the brother-in-laws at the Kamloops YMCA Mini Triathlon - Early May (I was 30 seconds off the mark in 2004…) Fort McMurray Olympic Tri - June? July? Great White North Half Ironman - Early July Ironman Canada - Late August (My first iron-distance race!) Fort McMurray Marathon or Half Marathon - Mid September (Depends on recovery from IMC)
Various local road/trail races as they fit into the schedule Break 30 min for our local 20km Time Trials (that’s going to be a stretch for me though!)

Train safe and enjoy the races everyone!!!

Clay

Goals 2005: The usual: Inherit a fortune, meet and marry the woman of my dreams, train for and race a 9 hour IM …

In reality:

  • Plow through some waist-deep powder in Jan. & Feb.

  • Big goal is to finish my first 1/2 Iron, probably Troika in Spokane.

  • Go faster in my Oly races … Drop a few minutes in some of the ones I did last summer and race a couple new ones.

  • Ride 3,000 miles on my bike from April 1 to Oct. 1 (that would be a big milestone)

  • Continue running strong, maybe even do marathon #5 (My achilles feels well and I’m back doing 6 & 7-milers, gracias a Dios)

Good luck, everyone! -TB

My Current schedule is looking very thin:

Nov 20 Laguna Phuket Triathlon
Dec Looking for a marathon somewhere
Jan 30 Probably Tough Guy (http://www.toughguy.co.uk)
Feb-Apr Lots of small running races up to 1/2 marathon distance
May Great Wall Marathon (http://www.great-wall-marathon.com)
Aug Maybe Ironman Korea (http://www.ironmankorea.net/)

So not much fixed yet. That will change in the next few weeks I think, depending on where my girlfriend want to go for holidays.
