2004 IRONMAN Races........Interesting

Interesting …Williamsburg or Myrtle Beach IRONMAN

just wonder what dates they choose

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.-Below is a schedule of Ironman North America events for 2004.

Full Ironman events Sunday, June 27, 2004-Ironman USA Coeur d’Alene-Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Sunday, July 25, 2004-HSBC Ironman USA Lake Placid-Lake Placid, N.Y. Ironman North America is in the process of finalizing its’ Half Ironman schedule for 2004.

Half-Ironman events Saturday, April 3, 2004-California Half-Ironman-Oceanside, Calif. Saturday, May 23, 2004 (in negotiations)-Ironman NA is in negotiations with Disney World to host a ½ Ironman event in Orlando as well as a family oriented festival.

Other locations in negotiations or under consideration for a possible Ironman North America events are Williamsburg, Va. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

No Ironman North America event will take place in Utah in 2004.

All half Ironman events will have qualifying spots to the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii as well as qualifying spots for full-distance Ironman North America events.

Ironman North America will make an announcement in October as to the specific location for 2004 events, with registration for the event to open immediately following the announcement.

Sounds like the Myrtle Beach or Williamsburg event would be a 1/2 IM. Probably in case IMF goes away in the future, then a smooth transition could be made to the full IM.

No surprise about Utah.

What about the possibility of the Orlando event becoming Ironman Florida in 2005 and beyond?

Any news about if this is a reality and when it will be announced / open for registration?

Jeff,

I hope they use their heads this time. Hopefully they will stay away from the GFT race.

That is a great Ironman race that is dedicated to the athlete. So many other places

to take an IRONMAN race, why place the date so close to another one that is already

well established.

Again, I hope they use their heads this time

Why? To reduce the competition and increase the bottom line. For some reason add slots and everybody comes out of the woodwork. Ironically the majority have about the same chance to qualify as a snowball has in hell.
