Would this be a good starter? Can get one for a good price with an extra set of spinergy, 105 comp. Good and the bad?
Those are nice bikes. Kind of the precursor to the Dual and P2SL we know today.
I have one and am very happy with it. It’s my first tri bike and I’ve raced one season on it (only 2 total tri seasons under my belt so far). I’ve gotten some pretty solid bike splits on it (20+ mph) and do not feel that I’ve reached its potential yet, even with some rather inexpensive Easton wheels. Hard to go wrong with this bike.
FYI - I paid $500 for mine (fully built, all new) as part of last year’s blowout sale at all3sports.com.
I bought one new from Inside Out Sports back in '02. They fitted me up on five bikes within my price range and after riding each of them for nearly sixty miles total, I landed on the Cervelo One because it fit me the best. I still have it and train/race with it today. There’s no reason for me to upgrade because “the engine” isn’t yet fast enough and I haven’t lost all the weight I want to. I currently weigh in at 227 and the bike handles my weight just fine. No problems with it at all. The bike has a groupe mix of Ultegra and 105. I would recommend it as a started to anyone. The geometry, downtube, fork and toptube is pretty much the same as the aluminum P2 and P3. Only the rear triangle is where they differ. The Spinergy’s alone are probably worth the price. A big step up from the stock Ritchey’s that came with it. The only complaint I’ve ever heard is the decals coming off in places that get some wear. But I’ve never experienced this myself. The only other little thing is that the serial number stamped onto the BB is covered by the cable guide.

Both these are true of mine.
dont forget to get fit by a pro, as with all bikes
i tried a steep setup which ended up very twitchy
.
If it fits you then there’s no reason at all why you shouldn’t do fine with it. I have one that was my first tri bike and remains my only tri bike. I can honestly say the bike has never held me back
It’s my current bike, and I’ve never had problems with it. If it fits you, as others have said, it’s a nice bike.
I like mine a lot. Although I think I’m selling it to get a road bike because a road bike makes a lot more sense here in Colorado, but thats not the bike’s fault. Its a high quality bike other than the decals.
