2 x 20 intervals all season?

The weekly 2 x 20 interval session at LT seems to be very popular. Is this type of inteval done all season long or is it ok to mix it up, say 4 x 10 or 5 x 8, etc? On the shorter ones should one increase the intensity?

Do you believe in periodization? Friel/Bompa?

Are your ‘A’ and ‘B’ races primarily in the summer?

Working on htese difficult ME sessions in the Build or late Base period is probably fine, but you will need to ensure you have a good base prior to attempting these workouts.

Check with OT in CA, either here or on TNO. He is a big fan of 2 x 20 on the CT, bumping wattage every coupla weeks.

I like doing both. durring the build phase i do one day of 2x20 and another day of 2-5 min intervals at a much high pace. It seems to help me go faster in the 2x20’s. The 2x20’s are crucical to me for race day strength since i am a short course guy
