2 dead at world champs torremolinos

GB and Mexico age groupers

Very sad. Was it during the swim?

I’m in Torremolinos now. Early and unconfirmed reports are that one was in the swim and one was on the run.

The conditions were a little windy and warm, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Such a sad and shocking turn today.

I don’t know about the Mexican, but the British racer died at the very end of the run segment, with about 500 meters to go. I passed by and he was laying on the floor with emergency procedures being carried on. It didn’t look good, because after turning in the last cone and passing the same spot again they where continuing with the procedures. I felt very odd continuing racing when somebody was dying by me.

There was nothing special about the conditions, the sea was relatively calm, decent temperature and flat bike and run. So he must have had a prior condition, maybe unknown.

One was during the swim. They were working on the victim on the beach. No success.

Yeah. We unfortunately were able to confirm some of the details y’all have posted here.

I hate writing these.

Do we know their ages?

Have unconfirmed reports of ages but not anything I’m comfortable putting in an article yet.

Unknown about a prior condition, but seems to be a lifeguarding issue for the swim:

Wont have made much difference for the unfortunate guy on the run.
Wonder what his solution is for that ?

There isn’t. We all have to die at some point. And this is from someone who went through the troubling situation of seeing this person dying.
