Practical advice needed as my first wetsuit swim is tomorrow. (Not a race). Where do you put the bodyglide? Shin and calf area? Arms ? How do you carry them wet…just fold them up? How to dry them…just hang outside over the deck? Any other thoughts?
I put body glide around my neck, underarms, above my ankles and behind my knees. I don’t fold mine, for no other reason then I don’t want creases to form. After I rinse with fresh water, I either hang it or lay it to dry.
I have a Blue-70 with sleeves… I put bodyglide on my neck for comfort and feet to allow easy exit. Rinsing is important and I lay flat to dry. I read somewhere on ST that if the wetsuit has been “stored” since last season, it should be soaked prior to use… I did it before my last race… not sure what soaking did… I guess I did it because ST said so!!! I have to ask… does Pharmguy mean in the pharmacy??
How do you tote it around…say to swim or an event? My wetsuit came with a carrier but you have to fold it several times to get it to fit. I would be affraid to lay it flat as I have 3 cats…damage! Yep, legal drug dealer.
I fold it to travel, lay flat to dry completely, and for storage, I “loosely fold” it and store in the closet… and I am a legal drug dealer too…
When you first swim in a wetsuit you will feel that your breathing is really constricted but just stay calm, take a few deep breathes and you will get used to it in no time. Good luck!
don’t fight the float at first. I did my first wetsuit swim the night before the Toyota Open in Dallas, luckily it was perfect. Put glide on ankles and up about 2" on each leg, around wrists too.
I wouldn’t hang on a deck if wooden bc of splinters, etc. Be careful when donning/hanging bc if you pull too hard it will rip.
AND some asshat at the beginning of the Toyota race recommended that if, when I first get in water the suit feels tight, just pull the collar out a bit and let water in. Obviously NOT good advice so don’t be tempted to adjust neck while submerged bc a full wetsuit= bad.
