1hr IM swim: corresponding pace in pool?

Id like to know what the exact pace that would give you a 60min IM swim is in the pool: per 50, 100, 200, 400m or whatever time/distance you know.

Im sure someone knows this off the top of their head, so I dont have to calculate it myself

Thank you!!

For a 60min 3.8km swim.

0:47 per 50m

1:34 per 100m

3:08 per 200m

15:47 per 1000m

Thank you!

What about in yards - for a 25yd pool?

Thanks in advance.
.

An IM swim is in a wetsuit, so it will work out a little differently for everyone. Some pick up more speed than others in a wetsuit.

In my case: 3-4 weeks before IM I did a 10x400 set in the pool (long course meters). Swimming much harder than I did in the IM, I managed roughly 1:45 per 100m pace.

In the IM, I swam 1:00:03, and that was after getting bad leg cramps on the second loop and losing a couple of minutes (lap one was 00:28, lap two was 00:32).

So, I look for 1:45 per 100m in the pool as a benchmark pace for a one hour wetsuit swim.

I think about 1:30 per 100 scy could lead to a one hour IM wetsuit swim.

Also remember that a one hour IM swim means a HUGE opportunity for drafting.

I’m sorry, but I’m not going to apologize.

I like this. Did John Kerry say that?

No, that one came from my own idiotic mind.

If I could only use my mind for good and not evil…

It is also hard to compare the pool vs. open water. Wetsuit + draft might give you extra time depending on how good you do flip turns, but you also have to swim straight in OW, so you are likely swimming more than 4200 yards. Rough water can also be a challenge - if you do not have an efficient stroke your wetsuit advantage is negated. Craziness at the start of the IM can also slow things down.

For a 60min 2.36m swim. (3.8km)

0:21 per 25yd

0:43 per 50yd

1:26 per 100yd

2:52 per 200yd

25:24 per mile
