Had an interesting request for someone looking for the results from Vegas Championchips in 1992 and was able to find them in an old Triathlete magazine…but I was unable to locate the results for the Series title from the same year (I am still looking). Wondering if any of the other elder statesmen from that era might be able to give me the top 10 (or top 5) mens…and womens if you have those as well…Bud Light Triathlon series winners.
Monty…Dan…anyone?
I’ll look through my old Triathlete magazines from 92 and early 93 to see if I can find the series results. I believe that Wes Hobson might have won that year and Jimmy was second, but I do not know for sure. Z
Pigg?
Not sure if I was second (first loser) that year.
Jimmy - You are always the first loser in my book! Z
Bud Light Vegas '92 was my first race. I think I swam 4000m for being so far off course. Don’t have results, but your mention of the race brought a smile to my face.
Looking through the Triathlete Magazine from Dec. 1992. Both the Vegas Bud Light Championship Race and the Ironman have articles in this issue. Jimmy was in the race, but finished seventh just behind Pigg who finished sixth. Andrew Carlson won the race with Brad Beven in second, Wes Hobson - 3rd, Ken Glah - 4th and a guy named Frank Clarke in 5th! Joy Hansen won the race on the women’s side with Terry Martin in second, Karen Smyers - 3rd, Jan Ripple in 4th and Jo-Anne Ritchie in 5th!
No Series standing are listed in the article, but it does mention that Wes Hobson and Joy Hansen were the series winners in 1992.
My guess is since they did not mention who can in second, that Jimmy was the first loser!
Couple of other interesting stories from this issue.
Tom Warren dropped out of the Ironman race for the first time due to sickness.
Scott Molina and Erin Baker are expecting their first child!
