For those that like this kind of stuff! (I do)
I have a 1964 Schwinn Paramount, either a P10 or P13, serial #R65, putting it’s date of manufacture between March and April 1964. It has the 1983 Campagnolo 50th anniversary series components on it - to include the brakes (levers and brakes), front and rear derailleurs, pedals and cages, hubs, quick release skewers, seat post. The shift levers are bar end levers and to the best I can tell are not the 50th, but are Campy. Top tube center to center is 22.5" (57cm), and seat tube center of BB to top of tube is 23.5" (59.5), stand over is 33 3/4" (85.5cm). The bars and stem are Cinelli, and are beautiful - bars are 40cm c-c width, and stem is 100mm. The wheelset are Mavic GP4 Tubular rims, 700c, laced to the Campy high flange 50th anniversary hubs with 50th Anniversary skewers. 10 speed, of course. Cranks are 170 length, with 53/42 gearing. Tires are tubular and still hold air, but really need to be replaced before riding too much or hard, as they are a bit crispy and cracked.
As for condition of all -
It is a survivor for sure, as it’s almost 50 years old. It is it’s original black, without decals, probably taken off some time in the 70’s. The frame condition is overall good regarding the brazing and frame structure, with paint chipping on both frame and fork, and some very light pitting in the chrome. The bike sat for at least the last 20 years or so, since the original owner died in the early 90s, so the tires need attention. It is quite apparent that while the bike is 50 years old, it was rarely riden. The teeth on the front chainrings are almost untouched. There is no scuffing on the crank arms. The bars are clean. And the tires look like they were brand new when the bike was hung up.The right brake lever touched the ground at some time, but I can’t find evidence that the bike was crashed anywhere else. The pedals are unscathed, as are the skewers, and the pedals. The bike was very, very dirty when I got it, and all I’ve done is clean it with soap and water and some Never Dull on the chrome, and ride it. With a further cleaning, some OEM brake hoods (although I like the look without), quality bar tape and to each his own - perhaps a repaint/powder coat and decals the bike would be an absolute collectors item - well, I guess it is currently, as it sits. I am a painter and paint bicycles, and have left it as is, because I simply love it as is. I got a quote from a powder coater, of $95, and decals are $38 - around $100 depending on what you want. So, for under $200, it could look brand new - well, new tires too - so $300ish!..
Take a look at eBay and see what the 50th anniversary series group by itself goes for. And then, the Schwinn frame, and wheelset. Value wise, in my opinion, my price is fair for the example in its current condition. But, let me know what you think?
$2400
