161 BPM during bike leg Olympic Distance

I did a C race this weekend and noted my most consistent heart rate was 161 during the bike.

In the run, I maintained 161, but it steadily got higher throughout the 10k.

To understand, is 161 just below my Lactate Threshold (LT) and I should set my zones accordingly?

A 1 hour all out with consistent power will give you somewhere in the region of your LT. Without power you are starting to add in perceived effort, mental effort and all the ups and downs that go with it. With power you are still only getting in the ball park. An LT test measuring lactate levels is the cleanest way to do it.

If you got off the bike and ran then I doubt it is a 1 hour all out effort.

That’s my rudimentary take on it anyway.

Close enough for an indirect measurement of intensity. But for a run why not use pace? You can get a watch with a footpod or GPS fairly inexpensive now.

thanks - good points.

I didn’t even think of pace…that could be helpful as I generally stay at a consistent pace once my hips open up. What is it, a beep sound from the watch?

This does GPS

Let us know what you are using for HR

.

I use a Polar RS 100 Polar RS100
.

You’re not going to get pace without spending money. I’d stick with HR until you are ready.
