13.1 Points for Gryffindor (half mary RR)

New Hampton 1/2 Marathon - Hampton, NH, 2-15-09

1:34:55, age group win, prizes: Lindt chocolate and a beer mug!

Splits that I remember:
3 - 20:57
7 - 49:48
11 - 1:20:24

I couldn’t find a Valentine Happy Bunny shirt, so I had to decide between the Christmas one and the Halloween one. Went for Halloween. Lucky. And I felt like I did that morning in October, tired, cranky, pulling focus from something deep in me.

Chase the fast boys from the start because it’s fun to be on the front of that line, chase the curves and winding neighborhood roads. Tie the bunny ears of an untied shoe again as I swallow water, lost the front pack but it was necessary. 20:57 at mile 3 and tummy cramps. You will feel good and you will feel bad so right now, DEAL and they get better but never go away.

Mile four my only thought nine left the focus I have today, a single word in my head and the peace of that.

Run

Calculate average pace at every mile marker and I’ve sipped from sevens to 7:05, 7:10, pink sarcasm font nice job with pacing, kiddo. but at mile 6 my hip flexors are the raw soreness that I should feel at the end, but not now. There are enough miles under my legs that my form doesn’t fall apart, but this prevents me from running as fast as I want to over the second half. My legs are turning over, but not fast enough.

Gu, force fed at mile eight. Everyone else is tossing the wrappers on the ground but I do not like to litter. I also do not have pockets. Because I am creative: I tuck it into my sportsbra and laugh for a couple seconds over that.

Sea salt and vinegar, the taste of ocean air as I turn the corner for a five mile straightaway back. Five is easy, five miles nothing, yeah except then the last three feel so long.

From Judson’s message this morning: “a half marathon is a long race.” and “have fun.”

The half marathon is not long, not when you run a 1:34:55, but that last 5k is long. Sneak under that clock before it hits 1:35, what did you tell Brian and Suzanne and Dave, I’ll run under 1:35. There and yeah - I’m happy.

CAPTAIN CANADA! where’s your RR? did you get tiger-chiked?

YAY COACH! Way to go

GREAT time TC! Fun read

Now, get out on that bike this spring …

Posted my results on the 100/100 thread.

Way to go … awesome race.

By my quick calculations that is about 7:20/mile.

Almost as fast as my 7:01

How is that for some badass trash talk???

March 29 is my half mary, when you see me post 8 minute miles you can laugh right back.

Congrats on your win, very impressive. I would be stoked with a sub 1:40.

yeah yeah yeah

The race registration / awards were at a hotel and when I started getting cold my first thought was of course “I wonder if they have a pool I can go swim and warm up a bit.” So I asked at the front desk and the hostess-person said “we have rooms available for you all to shower.” That was REALLY nice, being able to take a shower right after the race, and in a hotel room too, sweet.

We both got PRs so I think it should be a tie. deal?

Fair enough, a tie it is.

Those are some damn fine splits! Have you always been that fast, or have you been doing that “training” thing everyone here talks about?

Congratulations on the AG win! You should be in good form for your 1/2 IMs this year, for sure.

Nice race!

Thanks - though I would disagree with the splits being “fine” as I went out way too fast, to go from averaging 7:05s to a 7:14.4 average is kind of like crashing and burning, isn’t it? I’ve actually been waiting for someone to yell at me “you need to learn how to pace your races!”

Have I always been that fast… well… sort of. I was a bit faster runner in HS and am trying to get back to that. But, I have been training lots for running, klnd of slacking swimming, and cycling plainly neglecting.

Excellent.

I would like to clarify that your quick calculations do not give me enough credit. 7:14.4 pace THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Thanks!

I had milk in the beer mug with dinner.

Hey Brian… how many beer mugs do you need to play Quarters? I’ve got 2 now…

So “slacking swimming” means, what, 15k yds/wk?
Enjoy your win and prizes - I’m having some Lindt chocolate myself, but I didn’t have to run 7:15 pace to get it!

That is actually exactly my swim yardage for the week.

Sure you ran a great time and won but the most important this is you got chocolate. Way to go skinny!

Congrats on your race and the age group win…Knee and lungs working 100% I take it?

Nice race TC…while a :10 sec/mile drop-off may not be a ST approved negative split, it is less of a dropoff than most people have.

2 mugs is the perfect number for speed quarters. Just trust me that you do not want to be the worst player at the table for that.

clap clap clap clap clap

bow down

Well done tc!

I think for you a couple of shots of beer should do it. For most people 2 is good, 3 or more if a large group or you have bad players that you want to see get naked, throw up etc. It pays to be good with a quarter at the quarter table.
