I am very much useless as I bike mechanic so please dont judge me… I have a set of generic carbon wheels that I am looking to have a 12 speed SRAM cassette put on. I have been reading about it but cant find the correct part to replace my current freehub. My hub is CX3 disc that is compatible with Shimano 9/10/11 speed.
What should I buy? All XDR parts seem to make reference to a specific wheel maker…
Free hubs are very brand /model specific, the interface between the free hub and the actual hub varies between wheel brands, models and years. It’s like phoning up a garage and asking if they have a tyre for your Ford. You often need to know the make, model, and year. Is it a Superteam wheel?
You have to know which company made the hubs. You also need to know the model name or number of the hub. Then you can check to see if they make an XDR freehub body for that particular hub.
If it’s these then I would respectfully suggest that the economic assessment of trying to get a new freehub and then get it fitted are not going to be positive when compared to buying a new rear.
.
If you really like those wheels I’d drop $100-150 on a new hub/spokes with an XDR and have it built into it. So probably $200 and you got what you need and it’s likely future-proof for another 5-10 years.
You can use a garbaruk cassette. Lighter and cheaper. You have it in 12 speed for Shimano, xdr and micro spline. It works great. You have it in 10 50 and 10 52 combinations.
Apologies for necro. I had the same question w/ my CX3 superteam hub (for gravel wheels) and reached out to superteam directly. Within one day they made a direct-buy link for the XDR freehub body. They also can sell a CX6 XDR hub which I have on my road wheelset, but did not “request a buy link” as I did not need one. It seems they add items to their page on demand instead of listing them directly on their page/aliexpress.
Posting for any future budget-minded cyclists that want (relatively) cheap sroad/ztto XD or XDR wide range cassettes on their cheap superteam wheels.
I got my two XDR bodies approx. 2 weeks after ordering, shipped from China. Comes with dust seal, two small spacers behind body vs one large spacer for HG freehub (I only needed one), and thru-axle cap. Only thing “missing” is that the end cap has a slot for an o-ring to further dust seal, but no o-ring was present.
