So I’ve just got a new shimano 12 speed bike but the trainer has a 11 speed cassette. Seeing I use ERG mode can I use this bike on the trainer leaving the chain in the middle of the cassette, or no good?

Should be ok if you can find a gear when it doesn’t rub. Worst case is you need to trim the derailleur differently between the trainer and your bike.
Why not get a 12-speed cassette for the trainer to avoid potential problems?
What trainer are you using? I would go with a 12 speed cassette. 11 speed cassette may wear the 12 speed chain quicker.

Well mainly because I’ve been waiting for two weeks for a 12 speed cassette to turn up, stock shortages and all that…

Not with SRAM 12-speed flattop chain (rollers too big in diameter) or Shimano XTR 12-speed chain (extended inner plates).

Yep thanks, it’s shimano and not Xtr, so should be good to go?

If you keep it in ERG mode it will work. I wouldn’t recommend shifting the front ring on the trainer as that is where you’ll run into issues. You’ll also notice the 12 speed chain has more play on the cassette as it is narrower than the 11 speed shimano chains.
