I am considering upgrading to a profile design carbon x integrated handlebar, stem, and aero bars. I currently have a 110mm stem attached to an aluminum handle bar with the low end aerolite adjustable aluminum aero bars.
My problem is that the Carbon X only comes in a 100mm or 120mm versions.
Question 1: Is the 10mm difference enough to worry about?
Question 2: Given this scenario, which size would you go with? Larger 120mm, or smaller, 100mm Thanks.
Both the armpads and extensions allow for fore-aft adjustment…so you can basically set them up the same. Although, the hood placement is different, which many don’t care about.
That said, the 100mm version sells for a higher price on ebay.
Have a look at the saddle as to where it sits on the rail. Is it easier to adjust 1 cm forward or backward. If backward go 100 or if forward go 120.
This may not be an ideal solution if you’re on an already “perfect” bike fit, but 1 cm stem difference with seat fore/aft compensation shouldn’t make a huge difference.
Bike fit is the mating of a machine with a certain degree of adjustability with a human body that has a certain degree of adaptability. Chances are you won’t notice that much difference.
I definitely do not have a perfect bike fit, in fact, I plan on getting completely refitted once I acquire these. I will take a look at the seat. That seems to make the most sense. Thanks.
If you are using the same bike and seatpost now that you will be using with the new bars, I’d get my refit now. There is a good chance that you will end up needing a new stem, and you will have a better idea of which size bars are better before you actually purchase them.
Been there - done that. Remember, moving the seat 1cm forward it not the same as shortening the stem 1cm. Yes, the ultimate cockpit length is the same, but your hip angle will be different moving the seat forward and then you need to go a little lower in front to keep the same position. Will 1cm make a diff - maybe, but a proper fit is in order for sure.
