11 yo son doing sprint. NEEDS WETSUIT

My son is doing the White Lake sprint next May. Will be almost 11 then. Usually need a wet suit for the race. Any thoughts on a good place to buy a youth wet suit? Sell a used one of a child that has grown out of one? I know you can rent them for a race but doubt they carry youth sizes? Thx

If you “need” a wetsuit for a sprint, then you might not be ready for a triathlon. Kids are usually good swimmers.

I was assuming he meant a wetsuit is needed because of the cold. And trust me, kids often get colder quicker in the water.

To the OP: I believe Blueseventy used to sell wetsuits designed for kids. Called the Torpedo: http://trisports.com/blueseventy-torpedo-youth-triathlon-wetsuit.html

Hi,

How big is the 11 year old?

They can vary widely in height and weight (example, my son just turned 11 and he is 5-4, his buddy is same and 4-10)

If he is close to the low 5 ft ht,see if some of the local shops rent small suits. I know we rent steady numbers of XS wmns B70 suits to 11 and 12yo kids all the time.

For a purchase, the B70 Torpedo is solid…search e-bay if you are looking to save $

Check on EBay. I got my daughter, who was 12 at the time, a brand new “old stock” Orca sleeveless from an EBay store (can’t remember which one right now) for $90. She was around 5ft. tall and 95-100lbs last summer when I got it for her.

As to the comment about “needing” a wetsuit I would assume it is for cold and not for swim help. I bought one for my daughter since we have a river behind our house that we can go swim in. She just turned 13 and just swam a 4:55 400m free and a 19:34 1500m on the weekend so I can only dream about being as ready as her for the swim in a triathlon

Wet suit is for temp reasons. Thx for the help!!!

I do believe when I told my dad I needed a wetsuit to learn how to surf up near San Francisco, the wetsuit brand I was given was HTFU.
