So, I have a 11-27 now, and want to see if there is any better stuff for hill climbing with my compact setup. So, are there 11-31 setups? Or 11-30? Or is 12-30 the biggest one can get?

You’ll also have to consider chain length & RD capacity.

Yep, that is why I am starting to look at this now. Might only be possible with some new parts, but if that makes the bike better for me, it would be money well spent.
.
I just looked at srams website and they make a 11-32.
http://www.sram.com/...tte#/path/term-id/44
I think I’ll get this for tahoe if my RD can take it.
I put a 12-32 on my wifes 2009 Dura Ace set up. Switched it from an 11-27. It worked perfectly, EXCEPT she can’t go Big ring to the 32… The RD just won’t allow it, but that is just up to her not to shift into that gear. She loves it, there are hills that she just could not do with the 27 that she glides up now.
Seriously dude, if you need a 30, you do not need an 11…I know, “the downhills” but if needing a 30 you will be doiong 45mph on the downhills and not pedalling. Unless it is for some unusaul event. When pro’s are geared for the Angriru they do not have an 11
I can’t believe that no one has suggested you HTFU. Real men climb in 53x11
“…shut up legs…!” - or get a mountain bike
.
Go 11x32 / 50x34 / BUT go with a medium-long cage RD … Shimano Ultegra or SRAM Force may have one … my wife has that set up and has really helped her pacing long distance races with climbing

Dave, that is exactly what I am looking for. I have shimano stuff. Will have to see what RD I have. . What 11/32 cassette are you using?
Again, sounds like your set is what some of us might want to consider.
So, any chance to make a list of all the parts that make it work?
Thanks

I am not a real man, I am an engineer, and we try to find the easiest way to get a job done!!
And at my age, HTFU no longer works. :o)

You’ve just lifted the curtain for this 24yo and I’m suddenly very scared

Nothing to be scared of if you are prepared. If you are a stud, and can climb 10% grades for miles in a 39/21, you are a stud.
I am a wuss, so I need all the gears I can get. Took me years to figure this out.
Dave really knows what he is talking about, so if he has a 11/32 compact working, I hope we can get all the part numbers since I would look at trying an upgrade to my bike.
Usually my 34/27 works, but if I can do the work even easier, I am all game. Some of the 15% hills I am down to real low RPM so would love to be able to spin more on the tough hills.
(Even if this does not make me a real man)
.
just kidding about the ‘real man’ stuff, just the usual ST
you probably kick my ass in the swim, judging by your moniker
.
Well my wife is using the set up … she went from:
SRAM Force Group and switched to a Rival Long Cage RD + their 11x32 cassette … that’s all … easy
If you have Shimano switch to the Ultegra LCage RD (it’s common the med cage length will work too) … and get an 11x30 or 11x32 SRAM Apex cassette
With the SRAM 1:1 cable pull, you can swap a road derailleur for a MTB one. I just did this on my CX bike so I could ride a 11-36 in back. Makes a huge difference on extended 10% climbs on fireroads. I know a few other guys going that route too.

Thanks Dave, will take a look. Any reason one setup would be better than the other? Since if I have to change my RD, would it matter if I changed to a Ultegra L Cage
or Rival Long Cage other than needing the correct cassette?
Hope your racing is going well again by the way.

Wow, a 36 in the back. That might be overkill for anything I would ever do. I have lived with the 27 and looks like IMT grades are less than what I have gotten away with. But, I love to look at options.
Thanks

Nice! a little S(marten)TFU!
If you currently have shimano then get shimano RD … but a sram cassette will work fine
