Happy New Year, this was the hardest workout Iā€™ve ever done too date.
100 x 100m @ 100sec ,I can safely say I will not be doing that again anytime soon. Did it by myself ( my wife did 100 x 50m ) only me and a pair of budge smugglers. Started out pretty consistent but as you can see died on the last 15. Overall happy with the swim.

My pool is closed for cleaning and maintenance 1/10/20. The problem is they always install brand new water that is still stiff. It takes couple of weeks to loosen up. Until that happens I'll be slow(er).

Congrats, I can relate to the fade in the last 15% of a 10km...at the end of the day, its basically like doing a marathon. What was your nutrition? Hopefully it was more than the 1.5L I took (1L Gatorade with salt 500mL coke).

Congrats on the 100x100! Pretty good pacing until that anvil landed on you. :)

2500 for me this morning
300 wu
6x50 fly fast on :60
150 cruise
30 x 50 on 1:01 (beat the clock)
- alternated free and fly for the first 14 then just free.
- ran out of gas near the end and started missing the :60 on #27
250 cd

I think my biggest issue was the time for the swim was 11:30 to 3 pm...right over lunch hour. I slept in and had breakfast at 8:30 am, but I think I was starving for lunch midway thru my set. But if I add it up, I barely had 600 calories for a 3.5 hrs outing while missing lunch...probably not optimal.

Nicely done. Doing them on 1:40 is no joke.

I did 50x100 on 1:35* on Dec 31 to close out 2020.

*well, kind of on 1:35, more like 1:35 "equivalent". 10 swim on 1:35, 5 kick on 2:00, 5 pull on 1:40, then repeat that whole thing and finish off with 10 on 1:35. took an extra 30s to 1:00 after each "group" to reset on the clock.

Thankfully didn't die, for the swims I held 1:18's or so, except on the last one I picked it up with a 1:11.

Doing 100 would've been tough though.

Nice job on the 100x100. I did that as an exclamation point for 2019 on Monday Dec 30. I was slightly slower on the 100 meter intervals than you but I did keep every one of them under 100 seconds (average around 1:33). It's definitely quite an accomplishment!

Well I discovered a new workout called "pool fartlek"...as it is Jan 2 there were around 8 people in the so called "fast lane". Now you can just imagine what the definition of fast turned into on Jan 2 and we had this one crazy guy trying to pass people pressing buttons on his watch to make his "split times".

I just went with the flow and ended up going fast when I could get some open water in front of me, and then choice IM kick when I got stuck behind someone. I actually got a really good workout but have no clue what it really was. Was in the pool for 65 minutes continuous (there was no point stopping) and just swam when I could in all 4 strokes and kicked when I needed to get a workout at slow speed. Probably 2500m total in that time frame.

In the last 10 minutes, it was down 3 people, so I did 600m hard as 4x (50m fly sprint+25m free recovery + 50m free sprint + 25m free recovery.)

Today my pool was almost empty. I had brought my gym clothes in case it was too crowded for a swim. Yesterday it was mostly regulars but still open lanes. I think people are still out of town. We will see if they show up next week.

that's a pretty impressive swim you did, was it short or long course? One of my local pools just opened today after the holidays, and The LCM caught me by surprise. Haven't swam that format for a very long time, and my times reflected that. At the end I did 10x100@1;40 pulling, just right at your pace you held for 10 times that!!

30x100 as- 5s@2;00(1;41 to 1;34)5back@2;00(1;47 to 1;44)5free/breast kick@2;30(2;12 to 2;05)5 breast@2;15(1;57 to 1;51)10pull@1;40(1;27's/26 until last two 1;25/23)

Thank you ,coming from you thatā€™s a big compliment. It was short coarse meters ,looking back I would like the last 15 / 100m back but it was all I could do to stay afloat.

Jeez, you guys are fast. And/or, I am slow. Probably both.

1:15 hr bike in the morning.

Evening:
5 min w/u easy free
10 min focus on smooth strong pull
10 min focus on strong core
10 min focus on strong kick
Repeat 2x: (5 Min med fast pace, 5 Min easy, 5 Min fast)
C/D: 10 min easy pull, 5 min easy free

SCY (ugh). Working on the 2:3 breathing pattern (thanks Monty/Gary!) Took about 1 hr 26 with 1 hr 20 of swimming. 4298 m @ 1:53/100 m pace.

Swim time rankings are always pretty poor in comparison with bike and run. Need to get better at swimming this year (and biking and running, but you know what I mean).

Started yesterday with a swim ā€œinterventionā€ for a couple athletes:

Am:

Test set with 800m long course TT (we call this our ā€œturkey timeā€)
Total about 1800m

Pm:

1k w/u (all flip turns)
5x100 IM (one arm fly)
4-2-100-50 pull then same PP

3km give or take

This AM

Basic aerobic for 50minutes as free-band-pull-pp
About 2500-3000m

Tomorrow 3:30 pm
USRPT SET at 3x10x100 sc no toys.
3km....but weā€™re going to fail a bit.

I must say I am a 1:05 guy at Ironman at about 80 hours a year....havenā€™t done a double in about 12 years, 4700m, it was easy...until I got up this morning! I was very sore in unusual places.

Anyways the goal for about 8-10 weeks is to get some swimmers who were 1:17-1:20 at IM down to sub 1:08...hopefully find 10 minutes there.
