After a less than ideal bike mount this weekend, I’m looking for some input on the “best” cycling shoe for triathlon. I’m really looking to strike the balance between aero vs ease of entry.
A tri-specific shoe (Bont Riot Tr+) will be easier to slip my feet into, but the velcro strap is obviously not ideal aerodynamically.
However, I’ve been *attempting* to use the Bont Classic with elastic laces (aka the Giro Empire idea) with horrible success. I haven’t cut the tongue out, and I never seem to be able to slip my feet into the shoes with control. Once my feet are on top of the shoes, they get smashed down and are hard to manage.
But how difficult are the Bont Zero+ to get into (or eventually the velovetta design)? They look pretty aero but how hard is the single boa dial to manage?
How much time is an aero shoe actually saving over a 56 mile bike compared to a typical velcro style tri shoe?
Or should I just practice more to get super efficient with my current setup?
