I worked in Manhatten for 25 years, bus and subway, suit and tie every day, I loved the NYC tri's, running thru Midtown in my Speedo was the greatest. Screw you guys that think it's gay...you need some more self confidence, who cares what people think.

It's a race, not a beauty contest. If you want to have triathlon "attractivenes standards" then let's have them apply to woman also and require women to wear shorts which are long enough to cover their cellulite. Or is this just a male unattractiveness issue?

BTW - I agree that speedos are unattractive on guys and never wear one unless I'm tri-racing. I also don't walk around in public with spit on my face and shoulders but don't care if that happens during a race - since I'm racing.

let me give you a hint.

women find balls ugly. they view them as a necessary evil. please if you want to prance around in underpants, do it in your own home, don't subject me to it.

i don't know clm. even you boy faris gives me the willies in that speedo. the over-abundance of hair, the sweat, the stink, the bounching...it's too much.

but i'd be willing to come out for a visit with you to check out your area's landscape, see if i get a different outlook. maybe you can enlighten me. ;) lol...

As a former Speedo wearer allow me to put forth my guess as to why you don't see them much anymore. With the invention of more modest trishorts, it became easier to train in public without getting all the stares. And since most of us want to train in the clothes we'll be wearing for races, Speedos just kinda fell by the wayside (a few holdouts notwithstanding) As far as I'm concerned, Speedos are fine for the pool or a european beach. But I wouldn't wear them cruising on the bike down backroads or running the local running/hiking/biking trail.

i wasn't coming on to her. i was talking about looking at the people where she lives; specifically, some california eye candy for the womens. (I'm married, but not dead, right?) the point is that maybe if the eye candy is that fine, perhaps i would change my mind about the speedos.

When your wife tells you that you look very gay in a speedo, you listen to her..........if for any reason you'll have some credibility when you *suggest* that she not wear something out that....lets just say.....makes her ass look fat (or at least isn't helping any).

It is interesting to me how many times this thought seems to be coming up. I'm not sure I get that. Gay!? What the heck does a speedo have to do with gay. Perhaps it is as the folks in my office say, I float close to the middle while very clearly being on one side :-).....My wife can confirm that I am very one sided. I feel comfortable knowing, that with all my other issues, that at least I am not phobic.

This thread has seemed to beome phobic v. non-phobic.....my intention was more form and function, and possibly a bit of fashion. Again, I don't think you can beat the function, and I'm not bothered by the fashion.

I'm not homophobic (have several friends) any more than I am girl-o-phobic. I just don't want to look like either.

To be honest, though, if you saw me in a speedo, you'd agree that I should stick to tri shorts. I have longggggg skinny white legs with very distinct biker short tan lines!!!
