I’m probably going to try to scoop a pair up, but can’t help but laugh at the ultra-gimmicky “drainage holes”…they decided to lead with that for features??? We are running through swamps with these one. I have sever difficulty believing these shoes “drain” the typical amount of water/sweat that would accumulate during a race (which isn’t that much and highly unlikely to be enough such that it pools and requires drainage).

There are those of us who are heavy sweaters - I am like the Irish Fisherman’s of heavy sweaters.
I sweat like Mike Tyson at a spelling bee.
I sweat like Lindsay Lohan at a parole board hearing.
I have filled up MTB shoes with sweat during a ~1 hour xc race on a really hot, humid day.
Was able to pour the pooled sweat out after I removed the shoes.
(and this course was almost entirely shaded!)
And I definitely would sweat more and for a lot longer doing a HIM or IM run, and likely mostly in full sun, so yeah -
that feature is actually a benefit.
I still have an old pair of Zoot’s kicking around, and I like them for sprints.
Wore them sockless for a few Oly’s, and got some blisters, but for sprints they were lovely.
I sweat a lot, but never needed drainage. I understand the potential need for a small percentage of people. It’s a potentially cooler feature. I hope I’m wrong that’s it’s gimmicky. Regardless, I’m excited about these shoes.
The new Zoot TT, 3mm drop racing flat, 7.5 oz’s, I’m trying to post a pic but the file is too big.
Available in both Men’s and Women’s styles, the Kona Edition Ultra TT shoe will launch at the Zoot booth in Kona on October 8-12, 2019. A limited run will also be available for order online at zootsports.com.
Seems they are missing the proper target. People seem to love them for short course (myself included - when they stopped, I bought 10 pair) but they are doing the launch in Kona?
Short course nationals seems like a better place.

Drainage holes and seamless upper for sock less running and elastic laces have always been their shoe branding.

Because the amount of media attention in Kona is a tad more then Nationals.
It appears that Zoot is making another go at the running shoe market.
Why Zoot why? Are you trying to lose money?
Triathletes as consumers are among, if not the least brand loyal consumers in all endurance sports.

In clothing people are very loyal to Zoot product. This is a very limited run, about 300 shoes. It’s a proof of concept to see if a limited run, Tri specific racing shoe can be made economically viable. Thus isn’t a full on return to the shoe market, I have no doubt 50% of people in Kona will be in Nike’s this year and the foreseeable future. But for 70.3 and under, there has t been a purpose built Tri race shoe since Zoot stopped making the Kiawe. This shoe is the spiritual successor to that shoe.
This makes a lot more sense than diving back into the shoe market full on. This actually might be successful but man have their apparel and now these shoes a bit too wild with the designs, these things are ugly as hell.

Daytona 500 gets more coverage than NRHA Nations, but I’m not going to try to advertise drag car tires at Daytona.
But not my money, so I don’t really care how they spend it. At least its a nice place for them to go and call a business expense.

They have a presence in Kona every year, every major endemic player in the space are there as well.

True, but a better analogy would be advertising some new dirt track tires at Daytona. Lots of fans and participants are into both.
lots of Kona participants also to sprints / olympic. Plus all of the other people at the race / spectating.

Their slogan is literally “Born in Kona”. Where else do you think they would launch new products?
I have been able to confirm with Zoot this shoe has the upper similar to the previous racing shoe the Kiawe. It does not have a carbon span like the Kiawe had but that might be in the future if the response to this is strong.
I’ve actually got a pair of the Ali’i race model with BOA system that I bought on Ali’i Dr at their tent last time I was in Kona. The shoes breath very well, but did not feel too lively and were a tad heavy. They were over 10 oz I know that much (size 11). Always wanted to try the TT shoes but they went out of biz on the shoes shortly after I bought the Ali’i. Kind of like KSwiss…but they vanished too practically. Yeah, Zoots did seem a bit pricey now that I think back on the purchase.

Zoots were always best purchased on Bonktown, the Clymb or even Ebay…

I have 5 pairs of different Zoot models and love them. Some models have the drainage holes, but not all. The holes in the Ultra TT are very effective in removing sweat for those of us who sweat heavily.
Anything over 6 or 7 miles and my shoes start to fill up. The drainage holes work so well that now the first thing I do with any new running shoes is drill holes in the bottom to mimick the Zoots.
I always loved Zoots. Still have a pair of new Ultra Kalani’s in a box.
One thing I’ve found with shoes with drainage holes, they also let in quite a bit of water when you go through a puddle.
I’ve had good luck finding Zoots on Shoebacca. I started stockpiling the Ultra TT a few years ago, because I thought they would be hard to find after Zoot stopped making them. It turns out, they still have an ample supply…and every model is between $29.97 and $39.97.
I love Zoots, and they are the only shoes I race in because they are great sockless. But why couldn’t they ever get the heel pocket correct? What does it take to have a shoe that doesn’t rip up your Achilles area or cut into the bottom of your ankles? I can understand a first generation issue but this problem occurred on many subsequent models. It’s what really killed the brand. Hope they don’t have the issue with this new model.
