Anyone here who has owned or ridden the Z series Zipps care to comment on them. How do they compare to other ultra premium wheels such as Lightweights?
Rappstar:
Funny you should ask. My training buddy just bought a set of Lightweights and I just bough his Z-4s. The lightweights look and sound awesome and are extremely . . . you guessed it . . . light weight . . . he said that if a spoke breaks that they are rendered useless
The Z-4s I bought from him are awesome. I rode them on the Cheaha Cnetury several weeks ago and was very happy. Lightweight, responsive, incredible rolling smoothness when you ge to speed and confortable. I have a pair of Cane Creek Aros Team Ti that are stiffer and not as comfortable.
Any other questions?
If you bought them from your friend, you likely paid less than the high MSRP. Would you have considered paying retail for them? Have you tried the regular 404’s?
another good question . . . I did not pay retail and I probably would not pay retail . . . not b/c they are not necessarily worth that price but simply b/c that is pretty darn expensive for wheels . . . I have a Zipp 909 set for my tri bike and I would say that the Z-4s DO seem to ride “better” than my 404 front and they are lighter. If you were going to drop that kind of cash on wheels then I would say buy the lightweights b/c they are freakin’ cool!
BTW, I am selling my Cane Creek Aros Team Ti . . . if you are interested
