I’m busy doing my shopping for IMF and went to my LBS to get my usual new set of Conti Sprinters…of course the way my luck is running at the moment they had 1…and of course the local suppliers are both out of stock as well with no estimations on delivery dates!! The LBS is a huge Zipp fan and is trying hard to sell me the new Zipps - anyone out there running them? Thoughts, comments, opinions - other than the hefty price tag???
I’ve got the zipp tires mounted to my zipp wheels. I like them, but they are the first tubs I’ve ever used, so I don’t have much to compare them too. No problems mounting nor riding, and they feel good under me.
one of the reasons I went with them over the sprinters was that joshatzipp on this forum posted some very interesting stuff about they way they had designed the zipp tires to work perfectly on the zipp wheels.

how many miles you got on them? typically i’d mount new for an IM then race on them in the build to the next IM…
I rced last year on the Zipp’s and this year on the Conti sprinters. I’m getting my LBS to put some Zipp’s on this weekend for IMF. The Conti’s are a good honest tire but i find the Zipp’s are a level above.
i like honesty in an IM:) - how durable did you find them? Heard some guys saying they lost pressure pretty quick??
I think they are made by vittoria and have a latex inner tube so yes they lose pressure over time. If you put pressure in them in the morning of the race you have no problems, if you put pressure in the night before you will have soft tires.
I have 300 miles on mine (2 halves, 1 full, and a couple of rides to get used to them). No problems so far, they still look new. I’m using them again in Florida in two weeks. Yes, they do lose air pretty quickly. I pumped mine up before checking in the bike at Wisconsin, and then needed to again in the morning.

Hefty, but well worth it. When you think about it, your tires probably take the most abuse of any bike part during a race. Of course, you’re only using them for racing, so they should (fingers crossed) last a long time. I found mine are quite easy to work with (get on and off), are supple/comfortable, and so far haven’t gotten a flat, though total miles are relatively low at this point. Tires are a very personal choice though, but in reality, I think once you’re spending upwards of $70 or more per tire, they’re all going to be good!
