I’m getting some new 606 clinchers in the near future. I’ve done forum searches and see that my trusted brand of rim tape, Velox, will likely be too thick for my tires (Pro2 Race). Unfortunately, I can’t find Zipp’s rim tape available anywhere. Can anyone recommend any alternative brands of rim tape? Or if anyone can point to an online source for Zipp rim tape (my searches came up empty), that would also be appreciated.
That’s strange… I use Velox rim tape on my 606 clinchers with Michelin Pro Race 2 tires and never had any issues?
I use velox on the 606 and it is tight, but very manable.
Give Zipp a call and see if they can’t send/sell you some.

these work great, and save a few grams to boot:

I’m sure they’d sell it…$50 per wheel. .000000000001 grams lighter than anyone else’s available.
Oh, and dimpled.
I just orded some from Zipp…I think it was like six bucks. Cheapest thing they sell by far!
Do you always over react so much, or is it onl ywith Zipp. The OP wanted the Zipp tape or whatever came on the wheels originally. I made no claims as to the quality or the weight of the tpe, merely answered his question. If you want to hate on Zipp (Well within your rights) at least do it when it makes sense and you don’t seem like a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist…Sheesh…
Bob
It was gone from their website when I checked today. I’ll try calling them.
Thanks to everyone for all the replies–some good ideas here.
Hello PJT and All,
Another vote for Veloplugs.

Save weight, (approximately 16g per wheel for rim tape - 1.5g per wheel Veloplugs) and it will be easier to mount tires.
On some installations you may have to sand off the mold lines to get them to snap into the spoke holes.
A very small dab of tubular glue (Vittoria Mastik) will help keep them in for when you flat.
Check your rim for other holes beside the spoke holes. Some wheels have small jig holes near the weld that holds the rim together.
A very small length of the stick on rim tape (like Scotch Tape) works OK for those holes.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Neal
Is there any need to use rim tape for tubulars? My LBS put it on my last rim but other shops and original manufacturers kit haven’t. I kind of think the thicker casing of the tubular should survive OK. Tufo tubular tape glue may double for both rim tape and glue if used anyhow.
Hmmmmm… rim tape for tubulars… Verrry interlesting…
Another alternaive is ROX rim tape, very thin and light. Some have commented having problems, but they are on one set of my wheels and I have had no problems.
