Zipp Disc vs. Tricycle wheel

I’d like advice on what rear wheel configuration is going to be the fastest for the up-and-coming Imoo race… my zipp disc or an 8 inch wheel from the tricycle that I have laying around? I understand that its a hilly course and the rotational weight of the light tricycle wheel might trump the aerodynamic advantage of the zipp disc. Let me know what you’re thining… thanks.

I would go for a Renn tricycle wheel if Frank made one…

i think you should look at a training wheel. As i think they are smaller. But do they come in a narrower size…

I think you should put the Zipp disc ON THE TRICYCLE! Two discs on the back for SUPER aerodynamics and the small front wheel to cut down on your frontal profile! Granted you’ll only have one gear but you can always do it scooter style too!

Obviously, you won’t have to worry about having a flat on the Trike wheel…that in itself is reason enough to run it.

I have run a trycycle wheel in the front, especially earlier in my career, and found them to be fantastic. The moment of inertia for the trycycle wheel was somewhat low compared to any wheel over 12 inches in diameter. The contact patch for the solid rubber wheel is one of the secrets to the outstanding rolling resistance.

The only issues that I came across were the cranks hitting the ground every pedal stroke, and the flat spot I wore into the Big Wheel front that I rigged to go on the back.

I had to install a hand brake behind the seat so I could do sliding stops.

Good luck in your upcoming races!

you’ll get a DQ unless the wheels are the same size!! ; )
