Zipp article

Recently in one of the triathlon mags - Inside Tri or Triathlete, there was an article about a new Zipp disc wheel that was being wind tunnel tested. The article also discussed the results of wind tunnel testing of several of their current wheels. Does anyone remember which mag that was, and which month?

Thanks!!

Someone will have that…I am willing to bet in their bathroom next to the lotion. This is ST after all…Zipp is a thing of all lust.

I hope so, I’ve searched all over the place for the darn thing! Hopefully someone is more organized than I am…
(wouldn’t be hard)

Triathlete mag - June 2007
that article read like a 3 page zipp advertisement. Don’t hold your breath for a redesign (if it is even warranted)

There are links to two magazine articles there, though there is some redundant info as the articles are both written by Jay.

I work for Zipp, and bonus points to you if you can find the interesting quote in one of the articles that got attributed to me.

That’s it! Awesome! I’ll take the article to bed with me tonight and look for your misquote…

Do you have any inside knowledge as to when the new disc with negative results at 15 yaw will be available??

And a non-redesign is based on what information do you have?

Zipp is on the 6th or 7th generation for the 404 and as I recall the 4th generation of the 808 already. Zipp does not create a design and sit on the hands and not try to improve it. All that information is readily available on the Zipp podcasts.

I would suspect a new disc in the near future. When, who knows, but Zipp operates like an electronics company, always coming out with newer products to obsolete the old ones.

Yes.

I’m afraid that’s not info that I can share, however.

I think their wheels have pretty much stayed the same and have just been fine-tuned… which wheels have they made obsolete??

Oh, you tease!!! Think I could get some for next season??

I failed on finding the misquote last night. Help me out. (No bonus points for me.)

this is going to come down your definition of obselete!

According to Wiki:
Obsolete is the third full-length album released by Fear Factory on July 28, 199…hold on…

Obsolete: no longer in use or valid or fashionable.

To me obselence is defined by it still being in production.

Ha, sorry. I really like my job so that’s a secret I have to keep (which is hard for me, since I’m usually not too good with secrets). Depending on when your season starts, we should have something for you.

Look for a quote about Paris-Roubaix, it’s kind of a funny one. The guys at work certainly got some good use out of it.

red spoke! red spoke! red spoke!

That would be the tubular “bump” disk, no?

OK, I won’t take advantage of your weakness. When it does come out, I just want to make sure I know it is the one I’m looking for. Let us know what its name is when it comes out.

The misquote is apparently not obvious to a poor dumb bloke like me, therefore, you can rest easy knowing that it is only your coworkers who are working you over with it.

red spoke! red spoke! red spoke!

The red spoke of champions is a tough act to follow.

In Reply To That would be the tubular “bump” disk, no?
That’s correct. It is similar in profile to the clincher disc that is finally available after being shown some time ago.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I’m sure either Josh or myself will keep you guys in the loop.
I think I may have made finding the misquote harder than it needed to be-it might actually not specify Paris Roubaix but instead only “the classics.” Sorry, I haven’t read the article in a bit.

http://i11.tinypic.com/54jy3co.gif How did I guess?

All of the older wheels are obsolete. Zipp is continually improving the design the same way and electronics company does. For instance, the new Sony LCD monitors just released this month that have 120Hz refresh rate and will take 24fps input directly from a Blu-Ray DVD player *just made your current TV obsolete. *You may not realize that or care, but it has.

I have not heard what generation of Zipp discs Zipp currently sells, but you can see the evolution of them. Each one better than the previous. And at the present time, the Zipp clincher design maybe ahead of the Zipp tubular disc and we will see if they come out with a new one or if that is even true.

Would you prefer that Zipp changes the name of the wheels each time they come out with a better one? Other companies do that all the time. Is a P2K obsolete? Which is better, a P2K, P2SL, or P2C?

Bad analogy… according to it there is no obsolescence except for maybe 7-speed hubs…

BTW, I saw a Bontrager tubular disk with a torodial bulge at the Steelhead triathlon. It looked just like the older flat disks with a small bulge just below the braking surface. I expect it is there to smooth airflow over the tire. It had dimples as well, so I figured it was made by Zipp. it did not look anything at all like their clincher disk.

I am sure they will release it with some good science, but it looked like a very minor improvement to me.
