Zipp 999 from www.racedaywheels.com--buy this set?

Long time lurker, first time poster. Hoping you guys can help me figure something out.

I ride a Felt S25. I have rented a set of Zipp 999s to try out for a week and race with this weekend. I was planning to buy a set of race wheels in the next year or so. I can buy these for $1500 now if I like them. The only thing I can see negative about them is that there is a little wear mark where the brake pads touch the wheels and the 808 front wheel has 18 spokes instead of 16 (a heavier duty “rental” wheel, I guess?). Would you buy these or shell out the $2100 for a new set?

I’d take them and with the savings buy a front 404 for windy conditions.

The first time you use the brakes on the new ones they will look like the rent wheels. I would rather have more spokes on my wheels. Go for the deal

All 808 fronts have 18 spokes. Only 650c Zipps have 16 spoke fronts. So you are getting the EXACT same wheelset. It’s a great deal. Buy 'em.
