Anyone have experience with both? Recommendations for triathlon use? Specifically for IM USA?
If you can ask about which is better I’ll assume you can afford either. In which case you buy the 999’s.
The cheaper route is a Renn disc and a Hed jet 90 up front, but let’s face it, not quite as cool.
Actually, I think there is a great new business out there and I am taking advantage of it. Racedaywheels.com is renting Zipp wheels for 1 wk for $125 + $15 for insurance. How does that saying go … why buy when you can rent?
Seems like a great deal to me. I’ll post my experience with them after the race.
The rentals, I’ve heard, are built to be more robust (higher spoke count, for one) and with the heavier rims (there is some variance in the rims… lightest go to Z line, heaviest to building rentals). I heard this from the owner of SBR in NYC, who also rents wheels.
Actually, the better service would be one that would be able to help people decide which high-end wheelset would save them 20 seconds in a 6 hour IM bike leg! Based on the number of times two wheel-sets are asked to be compared, this would seem to be a “needed” service.
