Zipp 900 vs Sub 9

Has anyone had an opportunity to ride both the Zipp 900 and the Sub 9? I am planning on purchasing a disc and I am primarily looking at the 900 but if the Sub 9 is quite a bit better I may have up my budget a little.

I appreciate any and all feedback.

It depends. What bike will you use it on?

BMX Time Machine TT02.

Also, the races I do will be 40k and less and just time trials, me knees won’t allow me to run so no tri’s for me.

I’d do Super-9 then. Zipp designed this wheel more for TT events, and the Sub-9 for longer, triathlon-type events.

*ETA, or the 900.

Ha, busted you Bruce!!

I think you’re over thinking this a bit.

Billy, I don’t know what you are talking about. You know I am just getting new wheels so you can bum them right?

Gotta love auto-correct.

I hadn’t thought about that but since you brought it up can I use them for my next Ironman
.

I might try to save a little money and go with a HED Jet Disc and a Jet 9 instead. Hope you won’t mind if you have to borrow those instead.

I guess…if I have too

have you considered a zipp 808 with a disc cover? per wheelbuilder’s test, it may beat 900/sub-9:

A covered 81mm deep wheel outperformed flat disc wheels in every wind condition. The covered Zipp 808 has less drag than the fastest disc wheel tested beyond 10 degrees of yaw.

disclosure: i own an FC808 rear as well as a Super9. i saw this chart from wheelbuilder a while back. i wonder how the covered wheel compares to the Super9. I was told --perhaps incorrectly–that the Super9 was essentially the “firecrest disc”.

i never tried the Sub9 but was told by some who had ridden both that the Super9 is a bit less comfortable but is faster in many frames…and perhaps suited for shorter events for some people.
