Okay, I have some zipp 404’s and have been using tubes with 60 mm stems which just get out of the rim. So, I bought some 80mm’s to make it easier. I was looking at the Zipp 808’s, and with the rim 82mm in depth, what type of tube/valve stem setup is used? If one uses an extender, then one would have to keep the valve screw open all the time which I thought was not recommended. I assume tubes do not come with valve stems longer than 80mm?
i use a valve extender where you remove the valve core of the tubular and then screw on the extender and finally screw the valve core back into the extender… not sure who the company is.
Tufo and Problem Solvers have that type of extender.
To answer the original question, I think you’ll be alright with a tube with an 80mm valve. I know Vredestein and a few other companies make them. Go to any shop that sells tri stuff and you should find them.
I believe they have some by Deluxe at trisports.com. Very nice stuff. You have to stack a couple to get the right length. But then the valve is out at your fingertips, so no worries. I wrapped teflon tape around each extension junction, just to ensure no leakage.
