I’m considering buying 404’s or 808’s. I do Sprint and Oly dist. Possible 1/2 or full in future. My intent is to use mostly, if not exclusively, for race day. I’d appreciate the opinions of others.
rent em.
split em. 404 front 808 rear. or get the 404’s and a wheelbuilder disc cover
If money is no problem, 808’s! The front wheel gets the most benefit so 808 on the front and 404 on the back… =)
I have 404’s. Love them, but got hosed ast the last HIM when I had a flat in T1 after the swim and pinched the spare and few people had a spare to fit a 404, 80mm stem. Buy LOST of spare tubes!!!
for rear, get disc
for the front, it will depend on your tolerance for handling issues in the wind and what kinds of winds you tend to get where you race
try them both and decide.

+1
an 808 in the front may not work in heavy crosswinds (if you can only have one front race wheel it should be a 404)
carry a valve extender with ya, then you can use any tube

Make sure it’s the right valve extender. SOME you have to remove the valve, screw on the extender, and then screw on the valve. If the tube does not have a removable valve, hosed. Ya, I know have every type of valve extenders for all situations. ZIPP makes an extender that screws over any valve but leaks air unless you use plumbers tape.
Ah the price of fancy equipment.
don’t aero weenie unless you LIKE to aeroweenie
because it IS work, haha

808’s. You will get the most benefit from a deeper wheel. It will be more difficult in crosswinds as stated but not unmanageable by any means. I have the 808’s and enjoy them. Riding them on a training ride here or there isn’t a bad idea, tho.
