Hi,
I’m considering getting a set of carbon aero wheels for next month’s 70.3 and had narrow down to the above 2 choices. I’m riding a set of Easton EA50SL training wheels right now on an Argon18 E114. I participate in sprint to 70.3 events currently and plan to do a full IM by end of the year. I weigh about 68kg.
Firstly, I had heard comments that the effects of carbon aero wheels are only apparent for speed above 35-40km/h. How true is that? I had only been in tri for only about a year and my average speed is definately below 40km/h. My current time split for a 92km training ride (with some moderate climbing in between) with the training wheels averages about 3hr 5min, give or take a minute or 2 depending on the wind condition. Do you think a set of aero wheels would help to cut down my bike split by at least 1-2 minutes?
If the answer to the above is yes, would appreciate the experienced riders out there could provide your comments between the above 2 wheel sets in the following perspectives :
- Aerodynamics performance? (with and without cross wind)
- Hub smoothness ? (assuming stock bearings)
- Hub durabiliity ?
- Rim stiffness ?
- Rim durability ?
Thanks in advance!
