Zipp 404 for IMOO?

I am considering a pair of Zipp 404 tubulars to purchase on Craigslist. My big race is IMOO. I am a MOP rider. 6-3 190 lbs. I would appreciate your thoughts on riding on these wheels for the race.

I think Zipp makes a clydesdale version of the 404, you might want to consider those.

Have you done IMOO before? Bike course is rolling hills, nothing terrible, just up and down, up and down. 404’s a good all around wheel for most courses and conditions, but you might want to double check weight specs for the wheel.

Thx for the reply NG. Zipp’s site states rider weight is OK for 404’s up to 220 on TT bikes. I have not done this race before.

I think this is a great wheel choice. Light, aero, and strong. FWIW my first IMWI was in 2003 at 200 pounds. No problems what so ever. I did 2004 (176 lbs) on a 909, and 2005 on the 999 set up and noticed no differences in speed between these wheelsets and the 404’s. The 404’s were more comfortable though. IMHO- the 404 is just a fantastic wheelset—especially for that course. I don’t think you can go wrong with them on any course though. Just my $0.02. YMMV.

For IMOO is there an advantage between the 808’s or 404’s or is it personal preference.

I used 404 clinchers for IMOO and they were great! There is definitely plenty of parts to the course where the aero benefit of these wheels is appreciated. This year if it is not too windy I’m using Grey 90’s! Beware the buying high end stuff on craigslist as I’m sure you are aware.
