ZIPP recommends a max pressure of 125 on their 404 clinchers. There are several nice tires that obviously accept a higher max pressure-- Vittoria 700 X 20 Open Corsa EVO KS’s being the tires I have in mind.
Would it be best to find a tire with a max around, or less than, 125 or would running a tire that takes a higher pressure at 125 be sufficient–or produce too much rolling resistance?
I used those exact tires on that exact wheelset. I usually did about 120 psi. It’s a 20mm tire- how much rolling resistance can it honestly have? And how would you measure it?
One thing I should note- I ditched those Vittoria tires for Continental Attack/Force tires. They’re wider at 700x22 front and 700x23 rear, which is one of the reasons I chose them. I flatted out of a 1/2 Ironman on those wimpy Vittorias- the tread is so thin.
Use any tire you like, and keep pressure to 115-120. Just because a tire “accepts” higher pressure doesn’t mean you should go there. Super-high pressures are only for track racing.
