I picked up a used bike that came with a pair of used 404s from sometime in 2010. It doesn’t say Firecrest on them anywhere but the rim shape looks wider than an older pair of 404’s I used to own. Also these 404’s have a carbon braking surface. What do I have here? Not up on the latest Zipps. Just want to know how much they are worth if I sell them.
If they’re carbon braking surface and you’re sure they’re clincher 404s, you have a set of Firecrests. You could probably get about $1200 ( maximum) on ebay.
Thanks.
I’m not sure that they made the firecrests in 2010, but they did go to a fully toroidal rim at that time. Silly question I know, but are you sure they’re not tubulars?
Not a silly question at all. I’m sure, the tubes were a dead giveaway…as was the shape of the rim. I did a little research and it appears they came out in the middle or towards the end of 2010…not sure if that was considered a “2011” model or not though.
you can probably get significantly more than $1200 for them if they are in good shape btw
.
I thought so too…thanks.
If you truly have a Zipp wheel (does it have a molded in Z logo on it somewhere and dimples?.. some people do put logos on other brand wheels) and it is all carbon, and it is a clincher, it is definitely the Firecrest rim profile. Some of the wheels have a black and white CC (carbon clincher) valve stem logo rather than the red Firecrest stickers. If you post a pic, we can probably help you out a little further in your investigation.
Sounds like they could be Firecrests then, which I’m sure were Zipp’s first all carbon clincher, maybe they were late 2010 and as you said released as a 2011 model. The other poster is correct, you’d get quite a bit more than 1200 for them if in good condition. Although I’d be tempted to keep them personally. You’d be hard pressed to find a non-firecrest 2011 set of 404s for 1200.
They are Zipps…they have that “Speedway Indiana” mark on them (not a sticker). Too lazy to get up from the couch to take pictures as I’m watching New England make Jesus cry.
Really?? Jesus cry?? Wow. As I saw it, Denver was unable to stop NE’s offense…period. Even if Tebow had a better game than last week, they would have lost. Granted Denver did not play well, and NE was able to crush them with some big mis-matches, but making Jesus cry?? Come on man…
Seeing Tebow not throw to open receivers that were waving their arms in the air was fun. If only I could figure out why Jesus made Denver lose today…
Someone is sensitive…
